We just might survive 2016 —

Sunday, December 11th, 2016 — -19˚C / -3˚F & “Brrrr” in Atlantic Canada @ 8:51 am Atlantic Time — Cuzzin Sarah’s Birthday { heart heart heart } —

Sunrise December 9, 2016

Sunrise Sky Friday, December 9th, 2016 – I couldn’t hold the camera steady enough to get a decent telephoto shot of this. This was me leaning the camera on the top of the chain link fence and holding my breath – What we see and what we can capture with a camera are not always quite the same-

— 2016 has been ‘a Nine year’ numerologically  – [ 2+0+1+6 = 9 ] – which, to people who believe that the numerical values of days and months and years have a psychological and/or spiritual effect on human beings, means it’s a time of ending cycles. Depending on who you talk to or listen to, this is further warped by the number of the month and date – You’re supposed to add the month and date together and use that to modify the year’s number. { So, if you were born on January 1st, you’d add one plus one and hopefully get two and add that to the year’s number, get eleven and either think you were experiencing  a ‘master number’ eleven year or add one and one again and get two and believe you were having yourself a ‘two’ year. – In my case, I was born on September 9th, so 9+9 = 18 and 1+8 = 9 So I might have just lived through most of a double 9 year. Would all my ‘9’ years be doubled? – You’d have to consult with an ‘expert’ numerologist on that one. And of course, you might have to believe that numbers have vibrational power to augment or mess with they human psyche to ‘buy into’ this. Or you could be ‘scientific’ about it and say, “hey, I’m open minded – let’s see if this works-”

— Part of the explanation for what a ‘9’ year is supposed to be all about is that a lot of people will feel like they’ve finished a cycle. And, according to a couple I’ve heard on the radio this last year, a lot of people will figure the cycle they’re finished with is this life on planet earth. You may have noticed that an awful lot of people have checked out/ moved on to hopefully higher planes of existence this last year. My favorite spouse, Cathi, comes home from work too often saying things like, “Hey guess who left us today-?” — Too many wonderful people have moved on to better things this year and left us here, basking in the increasingly toxic atmosphere of whatever is going on in the power struggles of those who believe they should be in charge of the rest of us.

— & I’ve been ‘re-thinking’ a lot of philosophical stuff.

— But I also participated in “NaNoWriMo 2016” – National Novel Writing Month – last month, November – The idea with this is, you commit yourself to writing 50,000 words during the month of November, basically to prove to yourself that you can do that. For the second year in a row I wrote more like 100,000 words on my ‘NaNo Novel’ – & what ya gotta do here is — “Don’t stop and edit it, just get it all down-” and don’t go judging what you’ve got because you can cripple your effort by re-reading and feel the bottom drop out as you tell yourself, “Well, this sux-” and re-play the mind numbing words of everybody who tried to tell you that you’re a worthless piece of doo-doo if you’re not knocking yourself out to live your live by their standards and their rules. And, since they control their game, you can never measure up – hey, they cheat – in their minds they win if they convince you that- “you’ll never amount to anything, so why bother?”

NaNo 2016 Winner Banner

— This year’s ‘Winner’ Banner – tailored to ‘effbook’ standards & size { originally 1500 x 555 pixels }.

— ( I hate sans-serif fonts ) —

NaNo page

— This is the page from the NaNoWriMo web site that tells you you’ve passed their ‘upload your nano novel’ test and should really dig into your pockets and donate whatever $’s you can – They do not engage in the kind of nasty politix that many ‘beedy grastards’ stoop to – they do not try to convince you that you are a worthless piece of doo-doo if you don’t fork over the money you thought you could save to buy one of your favorite people a nice ‘it’s the thought that counts’ holiday presents.

— So I just ‘binge-watched’ all five seasons of ‘Person Of Interest’ on Bell Aliant’s take on a Netflix type service { ‘Crave TeeVee’ } (( And loved the character “Root” who was supposed to be a one episode character but, according to one of the ‘show runners’ had such a cool theme song that they wrote her in as a world class ‘dynamic character’ – Amy Acker’s Voice and expression make me want to ‘create’ and wear a tee shirt that says, “I wasn’t talking to you-” and credit that quote to ‘050313’. ))

— The perfect television programme never made it into any ‘on air’ status or ever looked like anything the ‘-powers who delude themselves into believing they ‘be’-‘ would consider airing for their own gratification and profit… But this one came close.

Moe -- Study in Orange

— Moe — our own little ‘Orange Revolution’ —

— And, once again, Moe gets the last word. I really should record some of our conversations, the plaintive cat, “Maereh Raireh!” and, “Maaw-ou-” &. “Aereh mung muh!” with so many subtle shades of emotional expression. — If I ever completely understand what he’s trying to say, I probably will be ready for a straight jacket – or a halo? —

It’s The Saturday Morning After A Not-Quite-Killer-Storm — & We’re Still Alive –

Saturday, March 26th, 2016 — //  -2˚C / +27˚F with very bright sunlight reflecting on very white crust of ice & with very clear air in Atlantic Canada @ 9:14 am. — Had to restart my MacBook, it crashed and didn’t tell me why —

Icy Driveway

This is the kind of thick icy crust we loved as kids because we could walk on top of the snow. But this morning poor Jassper could barely walk around and keep his legs from flying out from under him.

The Morning After A Day In Which The World Did Not End?

— Yesterday, just minutes after I posted a photo and a short blurb about us expecting an all day freezing rain event, like the one that dumped 30 cm of ice on Fergus, Ontario – where my travel trailer lived for the first three years that I was in Canada – Um, Jassper went outside to pee and I started getting him and the orange cat’s breakfast ready – and heard what sounded like a summer downpour that you’d hear through open windows ( taking for granted you had screens in your windows to keep the bugs out and let the breezes in? ) And when I looked out through the porch door, we had a hell of an ice pellet event happening. I went to let Jassper back in, he was standing outside in his ‘dog run’ area, just standing there, looking stunned and perplexed about what was happening. After I clapped my hands and yelled something like, “Don’t you have enough sense to come in out of the sleet?” he turned to me, smiled, said, “Oh yeah, you southerners call this ice pellet stuff ‘sleet’ don’t ya?” – tried to gallop, didn’t quite fall with legs all flailing in different directions, did manage to get to the stairs, did manage to climb up and get back into the house, managed to get to the kitchen, began chomping on his morning ‘crunch crunch’ dry food and absolutely loved having me towel off all the little ice crystals he brought back in with him. The next time I looked the weather had almost become tame, and had become more like tiny ice crystals mixed with small droplets of ‘freeze on contact’ rain. — Not long after that, maybe after Cathi managed to claw one eye open and stumble around in her bathrobe – the weather network had revised its prediction from 20-30 cm of ice pellets and freezing rain down to less than 10 centimeters of mixed precipitation. More than a hundred thousand customers in Ontario lost electricity. Our lights never blinked here. And that’s amazing.

— But my laptop had an anxiety attack while I was busy with something else and right now it’s worrying about a hard drive it says I have to eject or initialize. I clicked, “ignore it you stupid computer routine!” and it said, “okay, we’ll just continue to try to open it for you…. backup usb hard drive? We were just testing you, Are you sure you don’t want us to erase everything you’re storing on that thing? I mean, if we can’t upload it to the NSA – you shouldn’t be able to hang on to it, should you-?” And I grumbled, “Oh Eff Off!” and it said, oops, sorry, wrong routine- we’ll work on this…”

Icy World One

Ice on the branches, Ice on the ground. Looking toward Canada Street at a little bit after 9 am this morning.

Ice World Two - More of the dog run.

And, looking slightly down and to the right of the picture above this one. This is the ice-scape inside the ‘dog run’ where Jassper had to try to navigate around this morning. He kind of hugged the fence and leaned heavily on it as he stepped gingerly along, looking for a safe place to pee without falling and sliding indignantly around on his haunches or his side- He managed to remain upright, but was real happy to see the door open, and then climbed the stairs very carefully and happily came inside, ran to the fridge and wanted a treat. He wasn’t impressed with what I gave him, dropped it on the floor and sighed and stumbled back to lie on the floor in the bedroom. It might be a dog’s life, but that isn’t always the most exciting life in this world….  —jrw—

— Catch ya later? –,

I Still Don’t Know Why They Ever Called This “Good” Friday.

Deserted deer hill on a grey morning.

9:23 am. First hints of Freezing Rain and Ice Pellets began falling here. It’s quiet, grey and damp outside on this ‘Good Friday” morning.

Nasty Freezing Rain Event Beginning In Atlantic Canada?

— Good Friday, March 25th, 2016 — //  -5˚C / +23˚F —grey and damp and just beginning to unleash our forecast Freezing Rain event here in Atlantic Canada @ 9:23 am.

— The dog threatened to jump up on top of me on the bed if I didn’t get up and let him outside. I did, get up and let him out. The fire was still going in the woodstove. The outside world was grey and still. I opened the door and let the dog out, he ran to his fence and started barking at a dog visiting a neighbour we barely know, down on the corner, across from our good friend next door with all his wood piles-

— I watched the weather network news and saw horror story freezing rain clips from Fergus, Ontario — Very near where we parked my travel trailer when I first came to Canada. They got an inch of freezing rain there yesterday. (30 cm?) and with a lot of branches down and power lines broken – it will be some time before they get their power back up and running. There’s something like 100,000 people without electricity in Ontario right now..

— And the forecast models project Frederticton to Miramichi “being in the bull’s eye” for the worst of today’s ‘Freezing Rain Event’ in the Maritimes. I think we brought plenty of fire wood from the shed to the porch last evening, so we probably won’t freeze to death, but we may be off the grid for a while.

— Healing intentions going out to my good friend Pamm from my old Post Office days.

— & For some reason, I just felt really close to my Brother, Bob. Long Distance Spiritual Hugs going out to everybody. Catch yas on the other end of whatever weather we get today –

🙂

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2016 — Happy Anniversary to Cathi and Me —

Happy Birthday, Cousin Debi in Colorado — & Happy Anniversary Jim And Cathi in New Brunswick

House with shoveled walk to porch. Glowing Deer eyes to the right.

— I didn’t see the glowing green Deer Eyes in the dark (right side behind the porch) until I downloaded this photo from the cell phone camera this morning. I took this photo at 12:42 am. -jrw-

— Tuesday, March 22nd, 2016 — //  -7˚C / +18˚F with brilliant Sunshine and very clear air over very white snow on the ground in Atlantic Canada @ 9:09 am —

Cathi getting into van.

Cathi getting ready to drive to work while sunlight touches the treetops behind her. 7:43 am

— The sunlight touching trees at sunrise has been really spectacular in the last couple weeks. The clean new snow might even add to the ‘clean’ look, and the clear fresh air might help give me the feeling that exciting things are happening below the surface of things.

Dog with glowing yellow-white eyes reflecting flash.

Jassper’s eyes were not glowing like this when I saw the photo through the cell’s window. I pushed the icon – Jassper looked up, the Orphan Annie headlights flashed on and – I suppose that could be scary —

— Jassper took me for a walk up and down the street after midnight this very early morning. Then he was a bit disappointed that he couldn’t help me shovel the ridge left by the over-night plow when I went out to clear the end of the driveway at 6:30 am. ( The photo in the dark at the top of this article was taken after our midnight walk. )

Shoveled driveway at 7:36 am.

— And this was the driveway at 7:36 am ( time stamped cell photo ) I took a couple photos straight on and thought this one, shot on an angle, was more interesting. —jrw—

— At midnight the snow pile at the left of this photo looked more like a mini Matterhorn – & I didn’t realize the pile on the right side of the photo here grew so high so quickly.

different angle at sunrise

& This is an angle I haven’t taken and/or posted here before – The south face of our house caught a bit of reflected sunrise and I caught that in a photo I was in the right place at the right time to shoot at 7:39 am this morning. —jrw—

— The bit of golden glow above the hills to the east and below the slightly darker than it shows up here sky didn’t quite come out the way it looked in ‘real life’.

Moe cuddling with Cathi's slippers.

— & I couldn’t post anything here without including Moe. I may have hinted that he often hugs Cathi’s boots, shoes and slippers as he rests on the porch, but here you can see that for yourself. He’s also taken to trying to cuddle up with the fire wood we bring inside the porch to dry bits of snow and ice and have them handy for burning in the wood stove in the evenings.

— I should also tell you the wind picked up this morning after Cathi went to work, so when the dog went out to pee before his breakfast, which he is quick to remind me every day, should be at 10:00 am sharp – he came back in completely speckled with bits of ice and snow all over his head and back. And, boy, did he look daffy. I think he knew that – and capitalized on the sympathy he thought he might be able to garner from that. — & he does enjoy getting rubbed with a towel.

— And maybe I should mention some of the wild dreams I had that kind of go along with “11-22-63” the television series, where I was contemplating re-setting bits of altered time lines. & Before I fell asleep, I was surprised to visualize very bright light beaming down from the Eastern night sky and lighting up brilliant white light ‘domes’ – kind of geodesic domes that illuminated spots inside my body, like where my spine aches a lot – where, for instance, my T-4 vertebrae is slightly twisted out of line from a weird bit of wrestling with a friend in Vermont – and when Moe jumped up on the bed I glanced his way and he looked like he’d been hit by one of those beams of brilliant white light and was glowing whitely in the dark. And then I had the serial dreams along the theme of correcting messed-with time lines. I’m not sure exactly what the complete message that those dreams brought me or might have been supposed to bring me – was – but I’m not sure that the complete and clear message didn’t sink in below the surface of my ‘conscious’ mind, either.

— shrug — Enough for now? –, It’s 10:32 am – I’ve been distracted by pets and stuff –

Nor’Easter Monday? Second Day Of Spring -2016-

— Monday, March 21, 2016 — // -4˚C / +24˚F & snowing ‘lightly’ @ 11:11 am in Atlantic Canada on the Second Day of Spring, 2016 🙂 —

I have become almost magically optimistic about the future lately — Hmmm? Have I clued into positive trends in the world of Spirit? Or is this not so early onset Alzheimer’s? 😉

Bare Ground as Storm Begins on Monday, 21 March, 2016.

Bare Ground beneath our local species of Cedar tree as the Nor’Easter begins – this was at about 8:37 am today, March 21st, 2016 -jrw-

— The Weather Network said we should expect between 15 and 25 centimeters of snow today ( um, six to ten inches? ) The local CBC channel told us this morning they expect we should get about 10 centimeters / 4 inches? – then later amended that to say we might get another 5 centimeters later tonight, after the evening commute home?

Deer Hill before the Nor'Easter began in ernest.

— This is a view of the ‘Deer Hill’ that I haven’t ‘published’ here yet – The hill is actually somebody else’s property. Cathi says she wishes we could own it- She’s got ideas concerning gardens and safe passage for deer forever and maybe even a swimming pool.

—  My novel keeps growing in my mind faster than I can get it out and into word processors – In that manner I work out a lot of stupid dead ends before they waste time? At least I’m not wasting paper –

Snow falling, beginning to cover spots that were bare a couple hours earlier.

— At about 10:30 am. The spot beneath the cedar tree is now covered by ‘new’ snow. (I had to walk out to this area to bring back the garbage can the garbage guys usually leave upside down, but today they left it right side up, so it was filling with snow.) — shrug —

— I realized before I began to write this, that at about this time last year, I didn’t want to know anything about any more snow falling from the sky and building up on the ground- Today I pretty much knew it was coming – um, part of this is trusting teevee and radio weather people – and I still felt like the world was okay, that Spring is coming, that people are will be nicer to each other – That even nasty people will realize they don’t like being nasty? — I don’t know – Maybe something on a nearly sub-conscious level has become more optimistic since Canada elected a new ‘government’ that at least claims to value human beings over the principles of greed and divisiveness.

Snow in the air with our house as the backdrop.

— And I think this is the photo that I took around 10:30 this morning that I thought best showed the developing snowstorm.  -jrw-

— And I guess none of the photos I’ve put up here today do anything to explain the odd optimism I’ve been feeling. As a matter of fact, the day is kind of grey and brooding – and the snow that is falling doesn’t feel particularly friendly or compassionate – But the world still feels like it is becoming more friendly, more loving, more welcoming? So, of course there will be set-backs and dark moments – But I still feel like something deep down and subtle has changed for the better.

Sunday – Spring has Sprung ? & Our Friend Told me to Shrink the Photos so they don’t blow up the system? I shouldda known that.

The First Day Of Spring Is Here – & It Looks Just Like Yesterday – (almost)

& Below has been copied and pasted. [ —jda— ‘shrunk’ the photos that were giving me yesterday’s problems – Now I feel stupid, I shouldda remembered that – oops – ]

— & I fell asleep watching the news last evening, and woke up feeling better about the possibility that the people of this world just might not blow each other up before some magic happens to make everybody realize they like it here and we don’t have to destroy this planet because ice-hole president of some oil company or fracking concern tells us we have to to line his pockets, not heat our homes or ‘fuel’ our economy.

— & Next Sunday is the 100th anniversary of the Irish Easter Rebellion – the Irish got sick of waiting for the British and their philosphy – that amounted to Economic Slavery for everybody concerned – to fall apart and let us be free again. [ Schnarr Britts – ] 😉

— Sunday, March 20th, 2016  — //  -2˚C / +27˚F in brilliant sunlight reflected on very white snow at 12:06 pm in Atlantic Canada — // — I believe today is Dona ( née Flynn ) from my hippy days in Brattleboro’s birthday —

Jim & Cathi's vehicles at sunrise Friday march 19th, 2016

One of Jim W.’s photos that he couldn’t load yesterday, I reduced the size from 3,000 + by 2,000 odd pixels to 1024 b less than 768 and it looks like ‘No Problem at all” here – I also painted the license plate blank for ya, Jim – —jda—

— Yup, looks good to me –

Jim & Cathi's Eastern facing yard at sun-up.

— Jim & Cathi’s House, Jassper’s ‘dog run’ – Funny – Jim calls this the ‘Front Yard’ because it faces Canada Street and that’s the face most people see – Cathi calls it their ‘back yard’ because they come in the door on the other side of the house. I don’t know, If that’s really the biggest disagreement these two have, I’d say they have an amazingly good relationship. —jda—

— Jim & Cathi’s East Side Yard At Sun-Up.

West side of house with bell and deer feeding on the hill.

— This is the second of two photos Jim took Friday Morning, of the Deer and the Hill they feed on, he had to take this from a distance, and if his cell’s phone has a telephoto function, somebody should tell him how to use it. 😉 – I would have cropped this photo closer in and used it instead of the one he started yesterday’s post off with. —jda—

— Today dawned almost as picturesquely as yesterday –

Cropped Deer on the hill photo #2 from Friday.

— To prove a point, silly me, I cropped the photo from directly above this cropped version – Jim’s 2nd “Deer on the hill with great backlighting” photo – and did not reduce the size / number of pixels – The deer are so far to the left you can almost miss them in their lower corner there – Reminds me of Taoist Chinese Art – where the scenery is huge and the people are tiny? – And loading this photo did take so long at 2308 x 1766 pixels that I thought it just might crash WordPress’ interior workings. But it didn’t and it’s here, and I’m glad. —jda—

— yup, magic happens, isn’t it great when things work out better than you expect them to?

—jda—

Saturday – Sunrise – Committee Breakfast —

Committee breakfast.

I went outside to photograph the sunrise after I brought a little bit of oats out to the Deer Hill, and was surprised to see a family of deer already there having breakfast – Then I tried to change the settings on the sizes of the photos & ‘Media’ for this WordPress Blog and it seems to want to over-ride my changes. Grrrrr- But anyway, This is a cropped photo with the deer and the wild backlighting in effect. I’ll try to load this at full size and see what it says.

— Saturday, March 19th, 2016 —  //  -10˚C / +14˚F & Clear & quite bright out there at 9:00 am Atlantic Daylight Savings Time — I think today is my grammar school friend, Donald Hanichek’s Birthday. I could have the spelling wrong – and the last time I bumped into him we were in our twenties and both shopping at an art supply store where my friend, Kim, worked. I think Don was picking up art supplies for the place where he worked, and he pointed at me, smiled and said, “This is what I like about living here-” (bumping into childhood friends) —

— This week’s Media News included a bit on how consumers brought a complaint to the CRTC (Canadian Radio & Television Commission? — expanded to include cable and satellite etc. ? ) About the way Cable ‘Provider’s are handling things. The CRTC ordered cable companies to provide a cheap, stripped down ‘basic’ package that had to include the major Canadian Networks and possibly a couple US networks — I’m not 1,000 % ‘up’ on the details – But – They were also supposed to ‘provide’ single channel options, and not just offer channels inside ‘Bundles’ that a lot of people were complaining contain a bunch of channels they never watch and have no desire to pay for.  & Now it seems that the cable ‘providers’ – “jacked” the price of all the single channels they offer – up as high as they could get away with – and people are complaining now that it would cost them more to get just the few channels they want than all the channels they didn’t want before.

— & Now, Yesterday, Our local CBC Morning News Program reported that a new complaint has come to the CRTC regarding one of the major Media Providers and the way they charge for Cell Phone ‘service’ – They made it very easy for anyone on a family’s plan, including the minor children, to go past the ‘Data Transfer’ limits on their family plan – As in Testing and connecting to radio and YouTube NetFlix and stuff like that. The woman who brought this one complaint in question to the CBC reporters discovered that her minor son was able to go to a ‘screen’ where the warning “You are about to exceed the monthly Data Transfer Limit associated with your family plan – If you wish to continue receiving the program you are attempting to connect to you must verify that you will pay for the additional Data transferred. Do you wish to continue? If So Type “Yes” – ” The woman got her bill for that month, opened it and nearly fell down. The additional data transfer the company said she owed amounted to over $1,700.00 Canadian. After she complained to the CRTC the Cell Phone ‘Service’ was ordered to pay most of that back to her. The reporter told us that some complaints reported much higher amounts the ‘provider’ claimed the consumer owed, whether a minor child or the actual bill payer ‘okayed’ the extra data transfer or whatever –

— The CBC reporter identified the company in this case as ‘Rogers’ who may now own the iconic tower in ‘Downtown Toronto’ and might even own the Toronto Blue Jays. I could be wrong on this point. But anyway. The love of my life had a family plan with Rogers and needed to watch her bills extremely closely because the company tried to bill her in accordance to one plan after numerous long phone calls complaining and explaining that she had the plan that allowed her teenaged daughter either unlimited or close to unlimited data transfer every month while holding the rest of us, who didn’t text much, or in my case, not at all –  And every month they tried to tell her that that was not the plan she had and every month she fought and argued and said, “Yes it was the plan she agreed to-” And they would get those details correct and the company representative would say that ‘these are your contract’s terms’ – and read her what she wanted to hear, and then the very next month the bill would come in as if those conversations/complaints had never happened. She was close to tears every month over this nonsense. It seemed ver much like the company had a policy of: “Charge them whatever we freakin feel like charging them – and threaten them with legal action for breach of contract if they don’t pay our version of this- and to hell with what they think they want or what they think they agreed to-” And then they made their customers service complaints so contentious and maddening that they hoped their ‘treasured customers’ would just shut up and pay whatever was on their bills.

— Schnarr! —

And Now back to pretty pictures:

Deer blending in on the hill.

— “Wide Shot” of the deer that surprised me this morning – Here they began to run away as I was walking up close to where I had just stood and tossed cups full of oats up to ‘their spot’ on the hill.

— Okay, this blog doesn’t like full sized photos, let me publish what I have here and see how it comes out and maybe edit some more later.

—  Schnarr –.

If it’s Friday – this must be, um – What?

Friday, March 18, 2016 — //  0˚C / 32˚F @ 5:00 pm  // Today would have been my father’s 90th birthday. (Nancy did the math) 🙂 —

Early Morning look toward Canada Street.

7:13 am – Still Dark, & snowing ‘lightly’ there were a couple bursts of more determined snow falling, but mostly we had a snow-globe type of morning – one or two inches at most.

— We had our hungry morning customer looking for oats and I took a couple photos through the plastic on the porch- but they didn’t come out that well, so —

Early Morning Porch Lights.

Darkened porch, LED lights, snow in the yard. Looks like it should be a Haiku, but – & the funny thing is, I never noticed the lights reflected on the ceiling before I saw that here.

CBC "New Brunswick First"

“Soft Focus” – This is the south wall in the living room with our flat panel teevee showing the morning news program with its traffic cams and weather stuff. That’s the corner of Regent and Propsect Streets in Fredericton. I can’t read what city the weather snar is for up on the right side there. That may be the Westmorland Bridge over the St John River from the south side in the lower right hand corner. I never was a fan of red walls, this photo makes the wall look better than it does in ‘real life’ –

— The red LED clock below the television screen says it was 7:12 am. The time stamp on the photo said, 7:14 – The Morning news anchor on the CBC station said she saw vehicles that couldn’t get up the Regent Street hill this morning because it was too slippery – ice hiding beneath the snow –

— And, that’s probably enough for now. Although I might say that a plow must have come by and pushed just enough snow up at the end of our driveway that I went out around 5 pm to shovel it away so Cathi can get into the driveway easily when she gets here. Our neighbours drove away, heading toward town, rolled down the window – The husband asked, “How are you doing?” And the wife yelled, “I refuse to pick up the snow shovel again this year!”

— Have a nice weekend –,

Saint Patrick’s Day In The Maritimes —

Thursday, March 17th, 2016  — //  -1˚C / +30˚F @ 7:51 am — Snowing and still kind of grey in Atlantic Canada —  // Today is my cousin, Patrick Conroy’s birthday — Not the published author, my cousin ‘Ricky’ —

Looking toward the deer hill.

— At 7:00 am the first few flakes were few and far between, very hard to see. At 7:33 am, when this photo was taken, the snow was just beginning to show up white on the ground. Ten Minutes later, everything was covered in a solid white layer.

— The weather reports changed every couple minutes last night. Yesterday at about this time (around 7 am) we were told a coming snow event would do little more than cover the leaves a radio and teevee announcer hadn’t raked up and dealt with before the first snow last autumn. Last night the six o’clock news thought we might get 10 to fifteen centimeters [ 4 to 6 inches? ] And then at eleven o’clock the same news room with a different weather personality thought we might get something between 4 and 7 centimeters. At 5:30 am this morning the CBC’s area weather man told us it was +1˚C here and what snow we get might change to rain earlier than anybody’d thought it might. At 6:30 am it was 0˚C and we were told the snow was just beginning to enter New Brunswick after clearing Customs at the Maine Border 😉 – At 7:00 am I saw the first couple ‘few and far between’ flakes trying to fall. Just after 7:30 am I had started warming up the van for Cathi and the snow was evident, and beginning to look ‘picturesque’ – I grabbed the Cell phone and snapped a few photos. And like I said above, ten minutes later everything out there was covered by a solid layer of white. (We did brush the snow from the van’s roof before Cathi gingerly eased forward, knowing that hidden ice below slippery snow might be a problem.)

— And, speaking of problems, The local CBC news people are announcing that several cities in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia are asking the Federal Government to slow down with their Regugee relocation to those cities. And in Europe, the greedy and rabid nationalistic are backing a program to return refugees to Turkey from EU countries and let the ‘nice, law abiding’ refugees – those who never tried to sneak into Europe – let the refugees who haven’t left Turkey – be officially welcomed into European Union countries.

— Sigh — We are also hearing that Donald Trump is closer to his goal of walking into the Republic Convention with his nomination in his back pocket. But the buzz in the ‘psychic’ circles is that neither Donald J Trump, nor Hillary R Clinton – will be their parties’ officially endorsed candidates for the office of President of the United States of America in 2016.

— I’m not sure I want to hold my breath — or even watch this nonsense all that closely.

— And — The CRTC ( Canada’s Television, Radio, and Cable/Fibre Optic/Video — Media regulatory agency ) has acknowledged that they are receiving a lot of complaints about the ‘Un-Bundled’ Cable etc. services that they mandated to make the cable providers provide more affordable services are being manipulated so that the small basic package and only the channels that most customers want are actually being told will cost them more than if they ‘buy’ the over-priced, over bundled packages full of channels they have no desire to ever view.

— Meanwhile — Top of the Marnin’ to  yeh – T’is a glorious day to be Irish, or in my case, maybe 2/32 Irish? Me grandma’ said the Irish up the family tree were Rileys.

— Shrug — And now I’m entangled with my favourite partner in crime and/or domestic bliss whose last name at birth was Harris. And who got her name back when her [ first ] marriage ended.

— So there’s plenty of green in me soul and surroundings 🙂 –,

— Happy Saint Patrick’s Day –,

Welcome To Atlantic Daylight Saving Time

Young deer

– 10:00 am Atlantic Daylight Savings Time – I think this is the new guy – The lone deer who acted like he or she was starving last week. (The one who stayed there and hungrily ate oats while I was clearing the snow off the van so Cathi could go to work & With a Crow complaining vociferously the whole time – squawking that he thought it was his time to get at the oats.)

— Monday. March 14th, 2016 — // -1˚C / +30˚F – with cool fresh air and bright sunshine at 10:42 am Atlantic Daylight Saving Time. // I think either today or yesterday is Dana Delaney’s birthday (The actress who played Colleen McMurphy on China Beach). —

— Yesterday I was impressed by how sweet and fresh the air smelled, blowing cool and sometime sounding a bit rogue and over-zealous. The wind blew a fairy heavy plywood surfaced pallet over, after it had knocked a plastic snow shovel down-

— This morning, as I was taking the garbage can out to the edge of the driveway, where it had been light already at 7:00 am on Saturday, it was still dark. I glanced down the hill to where our side street meets Canada Street, in time to see a bus pull to a stop and open its doors for a passenger who was standing there waiting for that. I was taken by the fact that it looked like such a relaxed bit of life, a bit of background colour from a movie that you would expect to be a happy romantic comedy after seeing that slice of life for an opening scene.

— This was after I woke up this morning feeling like I’d been communicating with an Angelic or Divine Personality Who had responded to my worries about Donald Trump giving license to angry bigots to act out their racist, almost neo-fascist attitudes in public — by assuring me that a critical number of people are beginning to realize that they don’t want the cut-throat competition and constant anxiety of being divided and conquered by those who have become deluded into believing they have a right to manipulate large numbers of the populace into the atmosphere of constant anxiety and fear.

— Maybe I should just have said that I woke up feeling like I had been assured that the social-political climate will become more about cooperation and friendly interaction than competition and anxiety over false claims that our resources are becoming depleted by the unemployed, lazy welfare recipients,  or foreigners/illegal aliens ‘taking our jobs away from us’. The days of rabid ‘Trumpish’ nationalism are soon to be over.

— Then this morning on CBC radio, there was a report about a trend in Vancouver, BC, where Real Estate prices are insanely high, and rent is just as astronomically over priced. A growing movement among the ‘millennials’ is communal living, Advertising ‘living space’ accompanied by descriptions of the type of community the people who already live in a particular building are trying to foster. They also said they were different from the ‘Hippy Communes’ of their grandparents [ gulp ] because they wanted to go somewhere in life, { implying that they do not want to just ‘drop out’ and try to spend their lives getting high on sex and drugs and rock and roll? }

— Then there was another segment on another CBC morning news program in which one guy was arguing that it’s time to get rid of the 8 months of Daylight Savings Time. He said the benefits of this system are only going to shop owners and most of them are the corporate mega stores. (?)

— And then somebody interviewed a Hollywood watch-dog / historic trend follower who listed several movies in which Hollywood seemed to be trying to warn their audiences that there was a real danger that the cult of personality was leading everybody down the slippery slope to fascism with Narcissistic Charismatic Leaders trying to run everybody lives. And when the interviewer asked, the historian said ‘there’s a little bit of Donald Trump in every one of those [bad guys].’ It was odd to hear them lump ‘The Manchurian Candidate’ in with ‘7 Days in May’ and ‘Meet John Doe’ and a couple other less well-known movies where, for instance media personalities were reaching for political power and, in one case asking, “So how do I get all those monkeys to vote for me?” —

— Yeah, I want to believe that things are getting better. And I wonder why I woke up so sure that this is exactly what will happen.

— hopefully yours –,
