New Year’s Day, 2016 :

Friday, January 1st, 2016 -( -1˚C / +30˚F — Mostly Cloudy, mostly grey – and ‘quiet’ @ 1:45 pm here in Atlantic Canada )-

Mostly cloudy sky with bare trees and a little bit of blue.

Looking up into the sky to the south and slightly east at 1:45 -ish pm on January 1st, 2016.

— I can’t remember the day or date. I was sitting in the waiting room of the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep & Ram dealership in our Canadian town, just beyond the Capital Region’s official border. Our town was mostly suburban in character with a few ‘high rises’, none of which reached 10 stories high, several of them subsidized for the aged and partially handicapped, and most of them just off the main roads through town. There were a lot of farms just outside the town’s limits.

— The weathered man came into the waiting room while I was trying to adjust my posture to lean back against the wall just right to relieve the strain on my arthritis pained back and neck. I guessed he was a farmer – dressed in working clothes and boots, weathered face and gnarled hands – he carried himself with the toughness of somebody who had worked hard all his life and the tenderness of a man who loved to watch crops and animals grow. I thought the worry in his expression was due to the idea that he thought he should be tending crops or livestock instead of sitting around, waiting for his car or truck to undergo scheduled maintainance of have something replaced that had worn out.

— He smiled at me like he was someone who was relieved to have company- “That your Jeep I saw out there?”

— I nodded, “We got a good deal, leased it – I guess they were having trouble making their sales quota that summer because they included a lot of free maintainance with almost everything covered-”

— He smiled to himself and nodded, “I kept my old Jeep together with so many parts from cheap parts cars that the inspectors didn’t know what to call it- I bought in new one year, replaced fenders, headlights and just about everything else with parts from jeeps as much as ten years different- They always went with the original year when I showed them the ownership papers from way back.” He smiled like somebody who was fondly remembering a favorite hunting dog or companion he sorely missed.

— I winced and tried to move my back just right to relieve the pain that was beginning to sting between two of my arthritic spinal vertebrae

— He looked through me, nodded like he recognized the symptoms of living with the usual processes of aging and not exactly living a sedentary life. He looked away and wrinkled his forehead and looked back at me. He looked like he wanted to say something and hoped I was the kind of person who might appreciate what he had to say.

— I have no idea how people with similar philosophies recognize each other, or how people with controversial views take the chance that someone they’ve never seen before might share those views, but he made the leap, nodded, “Yup- I worked as a head mechanic for a GM dealership for many years – and one year my shop won a prize for best customer satisfaction in our district, so they sent me to Detroit, all expenses paid, to this high powered convention where a lot of mechanics were there and one of their big vice presidents came out and stood in front of several concept vehicles and new models that were about to go on display at a kind of yearly tour of shiny new advances in the automotive industry – This Vice President fellow sure did know how to talk, to tell us about how lucky we were to work for General Motors and how their big corporate plans had all been made with people like us in mind – and when he finished, he invited us all to come up and get a look under the hoods of all these shiny new cars and see what we would probably be working on in the near future.

— “Well, I got up there and I was looking into the engine of this brand spankin new family vehicle when I noticed something, and realized that this one part that was critical to engine performance and safety was made out of plastic – The Vice President was right there beside me and he smiled and asked me, ‘What do you think?’ I pointed to that part and said, “These have always been made of metal, this here is plastic, it’s gonna wear out too soon -” and the man looked angry – he sneered at me and said, ‘Do you like your job? Do you want to keep working for us? I’m paying somebody two million dollars a year to come up with ideas like that so you have a job!’-” The man I’d thought was a farmer looked deeply troubled, like he’d borne that weight on his conscience for way too long and still did not know how he felt about working for a corporation whose ethics and business practices were nothing like ‘honest’ or ‘above reproach’.

— I nodded, having worked for companies that rewarded unethical supervisors with yearly bonuses and pats on the back, myself. I walked away from that. But I never had a family depending on me and he was wearing a worn wedding ring on his gnarled left hand.

— Even now, several years later, I wish I could have thought of something, said something to him that could ease his conscience, convince him that he did not share in the responsibility for needlessly manipulating millions of car buyers into constant debt for way too long so corporate big wigs could suck on contraband cigars and laugh all the way to their banks – He was just as much a victim as anyone who bought one of those over hyped over priced, sabotaged vehicles – whose planned obsolescence might not just cost anybody who bought one more money than they needed to spend, but could also put their lives and health in jeopardy.

— I still feel his pain.

Farmer with scythe.

A farmer with a scythe.

There was a farmer who grew excellent quality corn. Every year he won the award for the best grown corn. One year a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learned something interesting about how he grew it. The reporter discovered that the farmer shared his seed corn with his neighbors. “How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbors when they are entering corn in competition with yours each year?” the reporter asked.

“Why sir,” said the farmer, “Didn’t you know? The wind picks up pollen from the ripening corn and swirls it from field to field. If my neighbors grow inferior corn, cross-pollination will steadily degrade the quality of my corn. If I am to grow good corn, I must help my neighbors grow good corn.”

So is with our lives… Those who want to live meaningfully and well must help enrich the lives of others, for the value of a life is measured by the lives it touches. And those who choose to be happy must help others find happiness, for the welfare of each is bound up with the welfare of all…

New Year’s Eve 2015 —> 2016 :

Thursday, December 31st, 2015 -( +1˚C / +34˚F Grey, damp – and might even be misty/raining outside at 11:11 am in Atlantic Canada )-

Light behind snowy trees on Wellington Court.

I’m pretending this is the promise of a brilliant sunrise coming for our ‘Civilization’ here on Earth in the year 2016.

— A couple good things happened in 2015 – but overall, I will not miss this last year at all. On the positive side: Canadian humiliated their Fascist Conservative Prime Minister and his divisive political agenda. They elected Justin Trudeau, leader of the Canadian Liberal Party, who won a resounding victory and so far appears to be off to a good start. His ‘Sunny Days’ motto kind of catches in my throat – gag, choke – but at least that IS a positive message and the “Canada is back!” message that everything I believed was the real Canada does seem to be on the front burner these days. I’ll give that a two thumbs up.

— Now lets see how long we can hold JT’s feet to the fire and keep positive, progressive momentum going.

Cathi gazing at a fountain.

And let’s pretend this is Cathi at a magic wishing well that is guaranteed to grant any reasonable wish she might make. – It really is Cathi. and the fountain is on Queen Street in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

— In the spirit of Optimistic New Beginnings – I spent about an hour on each of two days earlier this week sitting in a waiting room at a vehicle inspection garage here. I was inspired by my wish that all levels of government and all businesses had everybody’s best interest at heart and were completely ethical and honest. —> I sat there thinking I should begin a nice, short, high impact novel with a conversation I had with a mechanic in Arnprior a couple years ago. The weathered-looking man had been tortured for years over the message he got from a vice president of General Motors at a meeting he got a free ticket to. This was at a big deal convention that he was privileged to attend as a reward for his excellence in the service department of a GM car dealership. After the VP gave the assembled mechanics a pep talk, he invited them to come look at what was new in the wonderful new vehicles that the company would be introducing in the near future. My friend the mechanic gawked at a plastic part that the engine depended on to keep working safely and efficiently, pointed to it and turned to the V.P. and said, “But this is plastic – That part has always been metal- This part will wear out too quickly.” And the V.P. scowled darkly and sneered, “Do you like your job? I’m paying somebody two million dollars a year to come up with stuff like this so you have a job!”  *** This year I was very happy to see a tweet explaining that the French Parliament had passed a law making it illegal to build anything with deliberately planned obsolescence included in any of its parts. I just hope they can enforce that. Hey! If they can I will jump on any “Buy Stuff Made In France!” bandwagon. 🙂

Tuesday In The Snow –

Tuesday, December 29, 2015  -( -12˚C / +10˚F & Snowing here in Atlantic Canada @ 2:15 pm )-

Snowy Road in Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, 29 December, 2015.

This was taken at about 12:45 pm while we were taking the safest route down from the top of the hill at Prospect Street on the South Side of Fredericton. I think this is Knowledge Park Drive before we reached Kimble Drive. The driving wasn’t too bad, but for Cathi it was nerve-wracking. There was just enough black ice so she couldn’t relax until we got home. Latest ‘Guess-timates’ indicate we should expect about 15 cm / 6 inches of snow before it tapers off this evening. Farther south, St John is expected to get more like 25 cm / 10 inches?

We needed new brake pads and rotors to pass inspection this year and today was Cathi’s best chance to get the work done and the inspection taken care of. Luckily, the rotors cost about 1/10th of what Monroe Muffler’s extortionists wanted to charge for Bronco II rotors in Ithaca, New York in 1990. —> Beware of mechanics who depend on the money they get from ‘commission’ on sales of parts you don’t need in order to feed their families. Even worse, beware of ice-holes who scheme and plot the planned obsolescence that insures you need to replace parts before they would ordinarily wear out. Monroe Muffler’s slogan “We don’t fix what ain’t broken” is misleading. They replace what ain’t broken. Cathi doesn’t think they could get away with that kind of unethical practice up here, but mechanics at the Canadian Tire store in Arnprior, Ontario pull that kind of ‘bull-chips’ all the time. — You don’t want to be anywhere near anybody who makes a living by cheating honest people when those chips hit the fan. I’m hoping we found the most honest mechanics in the area. The most honest mechanic I know in the Ithaca, New York area was told to tell the proud owner of a brand new Volkswagen Rabbit that she needed $300.++ (plus) of engine work when her problem was a loose vacuum hose. When he told his boss he couldn’t lie like that the boss told him, “If you want a job here, you will do exactly as I told you to do-” So he connected the vacuum hose, drove the Rabbit out of the bay, handed the woman her keys and told her to go home and look for an honest mechanic, – grabbed his tools and went home. Instead of making $34.00 an hour as a mechanic he was making $125.00 a week before taxes and expenses delivering newspapers for a dishonest newspaper publisher.

I’ve got more horror stories, but I’ll save those for later.

Today did not give us another horror story like that.

This world's sexiest, most interesting and wonderful person sitting in a waiting room, waiting for or van to pass inspection.

Cathi, sitting in the waiting room at our honest mechanics’ place on Hanwell Road in Hanwell, NB, The owner told us we could turn on the heater, but we were so warmly layered that we might have melted if we did that. No, she really didn’t just swallow a canary – She’s probably wondering what kind of craziness her spouse will be up to next-

Fifteen minutes into today's snow storm.

At about 10:15 am, after a little more than fifteen minutes of snow falling this morning here, I shot this photo of our van waiting outside the inspection station / garage. A couple minutes later one of the mechanics walked by and commented, “Hey- it’s really coming down out there-” It took about an hour for the storm to completely cover any traces of asphalt on the ground in the parking lot.

Westmorland Bridge, Fredericton, NB. in a snow storm, Tuesday, 29 December, 2015.

Just before 5 minutes to 1:00 pm, I got lucky taking this shot out the passenger’s side window as we zoomed up the entrance ramp to the Westmorland Bridge. The river isn’t quite frozen yet- and you can’t see the lines of cars driving more slowly than usual here.

St John River in a snow storm, Tuesday, December 29th, 2015.

Just about five minutes to one pm. We had crossed the Westmorland Bridge in Fredericton and taken the first exit northbound on the north side. This is what the stormy St John River looked like from there.

Canada Street about even with the Circle K convenience store/Irving Gas Station, heading north.

Canada Street, just north of the Bridge Street / Crockett Street intersection, with the Irving Station / Circle K convenience store just out of the picture to the left. The slight hill here can be a bit treacherous in a heavy snow storm or especially during freezing rain, but we did okay today with front wheel drive.

Wellington Court, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, 29 December, 2015 after about 3 hours of snow falling today.

Wellington Court – We got home at a little after 1:05 pm – The time we would have been pulling into the garage for our inspection appointment if we hadn’t called in to check how the scheduling was going at a little after 9 am this morning. This is just before Cathi backed into our driveway.

— We did good – and I got a Christmas Card from my favourite Colorado relatives when I checked the mail box a couple minutes after taking the last photo above. 🙂

Warm Yuletide Full Moon & The Force Awakens

Thursday, December 24th, 2015 -( +8˚C / +46˚F dark & damp with a full moon shining on Atlantic Canada @ 10:45 pm )-

Full moon through the trees on Christmas Eve, 2015

Full Moon through the fog and birch trees, over Atlantic Canada at 9:45 pm on December 24th, 2015 – photo adjusted with exposure all the way up via Mac Preview app. Earlier there was a jet trail or straight line cloud underlining the moon through a slightly clearer sky. But the pets needed food.

Full Moon obscurred by zillions of orbs.

Unretouched photo of what happened when I thought I turned the flash off and shot at the full moon. Gotta be the mist in the very damp air.

Messed with Obs photo.

This is the same Full Moon with unexpected Flash effects and the contrast slider turned all the way up via Mac Preview. — Looks like Pink Floyd’s “Obscured by Clouds” album cover.

Cathi and I went to the cinema tonight and saw the new Star Wars Movie. I enjoyed it, even knowing it had been strained through a highly formulaic structure, it was still pretty good. I could guess several of the twists and turns, but the light side shines pretty brightly inside me and sometimes my silly ‘human mind’ can allow fairly clear messages to bubble up all the way through my soul and around my ego- or that’s the way it feels. I like surprises. I like positive surprises even more.

This is the time of year when this planet is closest to the positive spiritual center of the material universe. Every year more and more of us can feel the most beautiful atmospheric vibrations of the year and come away with new and improved insights. Try it – you’ll like it.

Happy Yule, Merry Christmas, I already wished Happy Hanukkah to several friends and now it’s time to wish a Happy Kwanza to other friends. Happy Holidays to anybody I missed. And to anybody who absolutely hates, dreads or fears this time of year – you have my spiritual love, empathy and compassionate wishes that it’s not as bad for you this time as it might have been.

Return of the Committee :) —

Monday. December 14, 2015 -( 0˚C / 32˚F — Grey and Damp and Threatening Rain, Snow, Ice Pellets and Freezing rain @ 9:00 am in Atlantic Canada )-

Committee Breakfast, December 14th, 2015.

They’re back! This morning at about 8:30 am, half a dozen deer showed up – quite skittish – but hungry enough to stick around within sight as I tossed several scoops of oats out on the top of the hill where they’ve come to expect yummy stuff, and let me know they appreciate our efforts.

We’ve been worried about the deer who have been making it through our last couple very tough winters by taking the chance that a couple houses full of humans would be sharing good food and not shooting and eating them [ which is illegal within city limits here ] The declining number of deer in this province has been making the news lately.

Cropped Closeup of Christmas Cactus - December 12, 2015

Saturday morning/ early afternoon – brilliant sunlight played on the ‘Christmas Cactus’ plant on our entry porch in Cathi’s ‘Zen Corner’. I took a couple photos with the macro setting active and got better results than I thought I did.

One view of the woodshed.

Sunday – After our quick trip to the Northside Market we quickly finished up the framing and covered our Wood Shed- hopefully strengthened enough to survive this winter better than last year’s efforts held up under a whole lot of snow- which split the two by two uprights we used as part of the kit that came with plastic ‘hardware’ and instructions. Our neighbour gave us the strong white tarp that did survive last winter. We have more to do here, but I think we’re off to a decent start with last night’s efforts.

Yesterday, Sunday – Cathi and I had a busy day, zooming off to the North Side Market, where we picked up a four pound chicken for dinner and discovered a ‘gourmet grilled cheese’ kiosk in the food court. Yum- When we got home we had to hurry to finish reinforcing the frame to our woodshed, which is growing around the steel shed we put up in the autumn of 2013. Today, Monday the 14th – we expect a messy mixture of Snow ( 5 cm) rain (possibly 39 mm) Freezing Rain and ‘ice pellets’/sleet (which might amount to a millimeter or so of dangerous slippery stuff -)

Cathi with the leaf rake.

“21st Century Canadian Gothic” – After we finished the Woodshed’s frame enough to be reasonably sure it would support the coming snow & mixed precipitation – and then got several pallets (some to burn, others to hammer into the frame to reinforce the woodshed) under cover – Cathi tried not to freeze her fingers while she raked a protective layer of fallen oak leaves over onto her vegetable garden. I moved our hand tools back inside the porch and grabbed the camera, took these last two photographs here, happily caught Cathi grinning with the sense that we actually did get much more accomplished than we thought was possible as darkness quickly descended on Atlantic Canada.

And so, even though the dog got out and wanted very badly to play with us while we were knocking ourselves out, and, after I caught him by the collar, made a very squirrel like move and pulled me down hard to the ground, which felt for an hour or so like I’d be in pain for a month or so, but did get better when I heated one of our bean bag hot and cold thingamajigs and sat against the heat while watching “The Librarians” on the Space Channel — I’m really happy the deer are still around, we hadn’t seen any more than two fairly young ones who’d come around on a couple early mornings almost a month ago. And now it looks like there is more of a “Committee” presence than we thought might have survived the summer and late autumn when we heard people out in the woods cutting what may have been trees that fell during storms and burning twigs in a bonfire- And Cathi had the awful feeling that she’d heard gunfire back there, which, as I ‘hinted’ above is extremely illegal within city limits here.

— Yay! –,

That “Something’s Missing Here-” Feeling :

Monday, December 07, 2015  -( +1˚C / + 34˚F & maybe a little too bright and shiny out there in Atlantic Canada @ 8:28 am )-

Pretty blue and purple hues through a security camera.

“Deer Cam 01” Looks like a painting, Captured on Saturday, 05 December, 2015

— Ever since Barak Obama’s speech the other day – in which he decried that People on the ‘No-Fly list’ should not be able to buy guns – something about that speech had bothered me. I think that maybe this morning I figured out what that was.

— Um, when they’re sworn in, Presidents of the United States of America are supposed to pledge themselves to ‘protect and defend’ the Constitution of the United States.

— The Constitution of the United States includes a few provisions that sound suspiciously like ‘Thou shalt respect the rule of Law’. A big deal in the U.S. of A. is a section in the Law of the Land that says everyone is “Innocent Until Proven Guilty” – another provision is  without “Everyone is entitled to a trial by a jury of their peers.” This is called “Due Process” – no one should be stripped of their human rights without due process of the law.

— Remember a couple years ago Yusuf Islam – neé Steven Demetre Georgiou, 21 July 1948 – & possibly better known as ‘Cat Stevens’ – Discovered that his name was on a ‘No Fly List’ in the USA. [ not that this particular Yusuf Islam would ever want to buy a gun, but – ] & While I don’t remember hearing that anybody ever apologized to the singer, songwriter, peace activist, purveyor of Love, Understanding, Wisdom, Intelligence and Tolerance – I do remember somebody explaining that ‘Yusuf Islam’ is a common name among followers of Islam and the reason that the entertainer formerly known as Cat Stevens had been denied permission to fly into the US of A most likely had something to do with someone else with that Islamic name having been declared a terrorist somewhere on this planet.

— Something that might be similar to the name comfusion cited in the above paragraph and important enought to mention here is what happened in the first of two US Federal elections in which George W Bush was not elected President of the United States, but ended up sitting in the White House for four years after each ‘election’. As was painstakingly documented by BBC journalists, Jeb Bush – G.W.’s brother – and then governor of Florida, the ‘hanging chad state’,  paid millions of dollars to a Texas-based Conservative Republican research group that supplied him with a list of felons in the state of Texas. Jeb Bush then passed this information on to ‘Law “Enforcement”-‘ “Officials” in the state of Florida, and had them make sure that no one with a Name and Date of Birth that was a close match to anyone on that list and whose race was “other than White” was allowed to vote in the Y2K US Federal Election in the state of Florida. In case you’ve forgotten – Al Gore was projected the winner of Florida’s electoral votes and thereby the Presidency of the USA in that election before a major [ Mercury Retrograde ] ‘Wait a minute’! SNAFU called a halt to the legal election processes and threw the state of Florida into a recount mode that ended in a catastrophe of near Biblical Proportions, in which enough of the 9 hand picked Judges sitting on the Supreme Court of the USA ignored their constitutional imperative and handed the white house to G.W. Bush, Making G.W.B. the first ‘Resident’ of the white house who had no business being there. The second Federal Election involving G.W. Bush was sabotaged by the CEO of Diebold Corporation who had bragged that he could, and did – hand the election to G.W. Bush [ -AKA ‘Shrub’, AKA George the second of the Bush Dynasty, AKA a lot of things that cannot be printed in a ‘G’ rated blog. ] George W. Bush is the only ‘Resident’ we can be reasonably sure NEVER won a Presidential Election.

— What does the above paragraph have to do with guns and ‘no fly’ lists? Well, (1) The US Justice system has been subverted and perverted. It has become so corrupt that calling it ‘corrupt’ is way beyond redundant. (2) Since September 11, 2001, and the ensuing ‘Homeland Security Act’ – names get listed on the ‘No Fly List’ without due process of the law. (3) Denying anyone of their constitutional rights in the USA is a Federal crime.

— So, Barry, who is pulling your strings? Who pointed a gun to your head and told you that if you want your daughters to live to see 2016, you better stand up and advocate ignoring the US Constitution and instituting illegal denial of Constitutionally guaranteed Human Rights to satisfy some shadowy gang of perverted Ice-Holes’ agenda? Whatever happened to Due Process? Whatever happened to ‘Innocent until proven guilty’? Do you really want to go down in History as the idiot who ignored the oath you took and burned the bill of rights?

— & to everyone else who read this far: Don’t worry. The evil ice-holes behind the latest activations of mass murdering helplessly brainwashed puppets with fall under the rule of Karma that catches up with all evil ice-holes. They are so power hungry and so immoral and unethical that they will kill each other off to the point where the few that remain alive will be totally impotent in their rabid attempts to turn this planet into the kind of Hell they have been trying to create here.

First Significant Snow Of The Season

Friday, December 4th, 2015 -( -6˚C / 21˚F — Clear & damp & “Brrrr” in Atlantic Canada @ 9:16 am )-

Sunlight hitting trees burdened with snow behind trees in shadow.

The sky was an amazing pinkish tobacco colour about ten minutes before I took this photo. At full size this almost captures the magic-

Snow laden tree photographed with flash before dawn.

This was shot from almost the same spot as the photo above it, at about 5:55 am – The photo above was shot at about 7:47 am.

Snow laden branches

Canada Street is hiding behind snow laden trees in this shot. This scene, backlit by streetlights before dawn was spectacular, but I couldn’t mess with the exposure well enough to capture that. I did fuss with brightness, contrast and saturation just a bit to get this effect several minutes after a magical sunrise in the upper right has lost its dazzle.

Trees bowing with heavy wet snow.

This is up the hill to the south and west from Cathi’s ‘Zen Corner’ of our yard. The trees are not bowing to us in worship, That is heavy wet snow and the trees are dancing their swan song in beautiful but heavy dresses.

—Last night’s snow was a sonofagun to clear away from the end of our driveway after the snowplow tried again to kill me by dumping hard to shovel heavy wet snow compacted not quite to the point where large climbs became ice boulders – And then clearing the icy wet heavy stuck snow from the roof of the van so Cathi could drive legally to work almost convinced my back that it was broken. Should I describe shooting, burning pains in back and shoulders? Nahhhh- This ‘first significant snow of the season’ was beautiful and inspiring, even if the damp cold did sting. Neighbours that often frown smiled and waved at me when they saw that I was taking photographs of the sunlight touching the trees up the top of the hill & giving us unexpected bits of morning colour in this newly whitened world.

Yes, World War II was fought so ice holes could learn how to terrorize anyone who’d been born into a free society and fleece the honest citizens of the world and invoke a Fascist/Terrorist world economy and corporate Oligarchy? ???

WTF X2

So while Donald Trump wants to be the king of everything and build a strong defensive wall around his riches, he’s using the old ‘Divide and Conquer’ strategies, trying to scare Americans into fearing refugees and economic immigrants that the corporate oligarchy needs to work for almost nothing. & his Trumpness forgets that if he gets his way and outlaws refugees,  Native Americans,  Canadian First Nations, and all of North and South American aboriginals might find a legal loophole to export all the European, Asian, and ‘other’ usurpers who came to “Turtle Island” / the ‘Americas’ to escape the kind of tyranny that ice holes like Trump are trying to reinstate here now.

ouch

The bottom line is. The loving, industrious, creative, nurturing, supportive citizens of this world are the ones who suffer the most,  to the point where they’re almost paralyzed when bigoted ice-holes do their damnedest to create a state of constant fear and add their divisive propaganda which encourages morons to bully and isolate anyone who might look slightly different, but who just might be the Angels in Earthly form who can save us all from wannabe Hitlers and other Anti-Christs.

— Anybody want a soapbox? — I’m finished with it for today.

“Heroes Reborn” = Vivid Dream early this morning.

Friday, November 20th, 2015 -( Cloudy, grey, rain forecast – Warmer than ‘seasonal’ @ 8˚C / 46˚F @9:30 am in Atlantic Canada )-

I went to sleep wondering what might come next on “Heroes Reborn” and, after several other dreams had one last very vivid dream about that television series.

= = =

Hiro Nakamura (sp?) has lost his powers, but he is still trying to rescue “EVO’s” – He has learned that compounds have been set up where EVO’s are being held against their will, probably drugged and probably ‘earmarked’ for execution. He’s been caught more than once and ‘swabbed’ – restrained while the results of the DNA test are coming and has been both relieved and depressed about being tested ‘negative’.

When one checkpoint received the ‘Negative’ results, he overheard the testers commenting, “He’s a dead ringer for someone on the ‘most wanted list’ but he tests negative. Maybe he’s a twin brother or maybe he’s the father of an EVO with none of the genetic markers? Maybe this is a rare case of the mother passing down the gene?” And when the para military testers question him, he pretends he can’t understand english at all, and pulls out an English – Japanese phrase book and offers it to the testers. They say, “We ain’t got time for this – move along, get out of here.” He stands there looking like he has no clue to what they just said, bows and points to the phrase book, offers it to them, they gesture threateningly and point roughly, “Go!” He nods and bows and scurries off.

A couple more guys in line sneer at him and snicker, “I hear that some of them can control the machines and force them to return false negative results.” Somebody else yells, “Why don’t you go back to China where you belong?”

Hiro almost looks shocked and almost explains that he’s from Japan, but remembers himself and bows and nods and scurries off with his head down.

He goes to a Sushi restaurant and orders in Japanese.

Two young-ish customers sitting near him in the restaurant ask him if he understands English. He looks around and, worried that someone might have followed him from the testing station, pulls out his phrase book and offers it to the customers, bows and says in Japanese, “Sorry, I don’t understand English, perhaps you can find what you want to say and attempt to ask me in Japanese?”

They wave him off with a half frustrated, half almost nasty look and turn, grin to each other, “I guess we can talk – I wish this place wasn’t so crowded all the time.”

The food here is excellent. You can’t have excellent food at a good price without being crowded.”

Yeah, I guess you’re right.”

And I guess you’re not going to try to get into the concert you wanted so badly to attend -”

No – I thought I might be able to buy tickets on line and then hop the fence around the testing station, but they’ve stepped up their security lately. They have motion detectors so sensitive that a mosquito can set them off.”

Too bad you can’t teleport -”

Too bad neither one of us has any power that might be really useful.”

Their Sushi arrives they smile at the waiter and wait until he’s out of range, sample their stuff and resume talking quietly while they eat.

I hear there’s an actual safe zone about ten miles out of town off the old El Camino Highway. The only marker is an upside down speed limit sign that somebody spray painted “EVOs Not Wanted Here”. There’s a hard to find path off to the left side of the highway there.”

What do you mean a safe zone?”

I heard that EVOs who have been tested with non-threatening powers have been released and granted an area where they can live without being afraid of storm troopers rounding them up again and dragging them off in the middle of the night.”

Sounds like a concentration camp to me.”

Yeah, well, There are supposed to be periodic patrols by normals around the perimeter and patrols and guard posts inside by EVOs to watch for vigilantes and the like. They will stop and interrogate anyone who tries to come inside, and allow other EVOs to come in and feel safe with them. I heard they have a couple new guys with decent defensive powers-”

Hiro’s Sushi arrives, he thanks the waiter in Japanese and bows, eats quickly and leaves. He looks at an old map in a gas station and finds “El Camino Highway” nods and buys a bottle of spring water.

That night takes a bicycle out along the highway and finds the sign and finds the path and hides the bicycle and hides himself until a couple patrols of ‘normals’ go by and then waits and then creeps low from cover to cover and finds a fence and finds a spot where the fence has been knocked down by a fallen tree, creeps across the tree and follows a path inside the fence, finds a second fence that ends at a stream, crosses the stream and finds a broken white line painted on stone with “Do Not Cross This Line” scrawled in white paint in several languages.

The sky is beginning to show signs of approaching daylight. Hiro does not want to be caught out in the open. He creeps along the line, trying to get to some rocks and sparse trees where he hopes he might be able to hide out safely before the sun rises and exposes him to ‘normals’.

At one point he almost loses his balance and steps over the line.

Somebody whispers menacingly, “You stepped over the line.”

Hiro whispers back, “Sorry, I lost my balance, I do not want to be caught out in the open when the sun rises-” he looks down, he’s wearing a pair of black running shoes with ‘Nike’ like white stripes and one of those stripes has come lose, he grumbles ‘cheap imitations’ and pulls the stripe off, drops it, and moves back across the line.

He sees a hand emerge from darkness and focus some kind of energy on the white stripe. It turns red, then the redness moves and becomes a red yellow depiction of a sunrise behind scattered clouds.

Hiro picks up the stripe and smiles at it.

Are you an EVO?” the voice whispers, “You do not feel like a ‘Normal’ to me, you don’t have the mean streak, or the fear-”

Hiro sighs, “I was an EVO – Another EVO took my power from me, Now even the DNA tests come back negative.” He looks at the white stripe, “It’s changing- look – the picture you projected is changing.” He hands the stripe to the unseen hand.

The hand touches Hiro’s hand and a subtle field of light blue rolls up through Hiro’s hand and arm. He feels a tingle.

The voice whispers, “You became a latent EVO – Strange, Even latent EVOs show up positive on their tests. Those are the rough ones, brutish guards push and prod and shock and even water-board latents to see what kind of power might emerge.”

Together they watch the sunrise become a moving painting of Hiro talking to a shadowy person across a line painted on stone.

The voice continues, “I have a couple minor powers. I can feel other EVOs if they’re close. I can project images, but they’ve never moved before- and I can sometimes bring out the power in latent EVOs – When they tested me the only power I showed them was my ability to project images on paper or white objects, leather, or stone. I projected stick images like little kids’ drawings and they laughed at me, said, “Wow, now that’s what I call a dangerous power- They tried a couple other tests and I flunked them all, so they gave me the option to come here.”

While they watch the image continue to change they see it change completely and show a dark figure approach the line and raise a bazooka, aim and fire it. They see the image reveal an army of bazooka wielding figures firing into their ‘Safe Zone’.

What was your power?” the voice gasps.

I was able to jump through time and space.”

Is this the future that is coming to us? Or is this what you fear or hope will not happen?”

I don’t know, it’s been some time since I had my power – I don’t know how strong it might be if it has returned.”

Well, dangit, man, you better get inside here, we better show this to the committee.”

The hand reaches out and pulls Hiro across the line.

Old Age Schnarr Update —

Tuesday, November 17th, 2015 -( Cloudy, damp, and +3˚C / 37˚F @ 1:30 pm in our little corner of Atlantic Canada )- { Yesterday was Doug Otterson’s Birthday. & coincidently, Marg Helgenberger’s, born same day, same year as Doug, half a continent apart. hmmmm— }

Okay- Today I got my choice of how to compute my old age pension form witnessed and mailed. We started this process in Juy of 2014 and finally got the ‘Choose one of these three options, get a witness to sign for you and mail this back to us’ final step before the pension (which is pitifully small) can start coming to me. Don’t know whether anything will start coming before Christmas. I suppose we can hope it might.

This will, however, mean the difference between Cathi and me spending $150 for 3 months worth of cut and split firewood or between $1200 & $1500 for those same 3 months in electricity bills for heating with electricity.

I was beginning to believe that the ex prime minister of Canada and his cronies were plotting to cheat as many good honest people out of everything they could for as long as they could get away with it. The last time I complained to anybody about how long this was taking – a friend from up the street here said I should contact my Local Legislative representative. This was just before the latest elections here. Before the new guys & women were sworn in I got a notice in the mail and it took us this long to get things figured out and signed and witnessed. Less than a month after Canada sent the beedy grastards in the Conservative Party of Canada packing.

Yay? tell ya in a couple weeks, or months, or however long it takes.

Nice Day To Vote – & Some Cathing Up –

Saturday, October 10th, 2015 -( 9˚C / 48˚F — Clear, Bright, Sunny and Breezy — A bit nippy —@ 4:53 pm in this little corner of Atlantic Canada )-  It’s my nephew, Westley’s Birthday, and his father, Mike’s Birthday today.

Marysville Baptist Church

This is what the Marysville Baptist Church looked like after we voted this afternoon – Saturday, October 10th, 2015.

— The News Media warned us yesterday, So many Canadians were turning out for ‘Advanced Polling’ that many had to wait as long as 2 hours and quite a few people were upset that only one polling booth was open at each advanced polling location. As we approached the front door of the Marysville Baptist Church, which will be open for our advanced voting for 4 days – yesterday, today, tomorrow and Monday – from noon to 8 pm local time – A smiling woman we’d never met before came out of the building, almost walked past us, quickly caught the door before it closed and held it for us, happily telling us “It only took two minutes – Um, the line was about fifteen minutes long -” We thanked her, smiled back – Yes, smiling is contagious – and thought, “Yes, I love New Brunswick people.”

— There was an older man with a slight hearing problem checking to be sure we had proper I.D. before waving us through to stand in the line behind something like twenty people while three volunteers were again checking I.D.s, crossing names off their lists of registered voters, handing paper ballots to voters – one at a time – and occasionally making sure of things, like the older woman who had to sit down in a chair knew where her place in the line was, and the younger gentleman who was out of line talking animatedly to a couple he obviously knew and knew well, and liked – knew where his place in line was and wasn’t trying to jump ahead of anybody.

— A woman ( best guess – she was probably in her thirties or forties ) looked like she was in a hurry, came in after we did, quizzed the older man checking I.D.s at his table outside the church gymnasium – “Is the line always this long? You only have one polling booth? Why do you have only one booth? Okay, I’m coming back later -” and she left. The older man called after her, “It might be worse later, I’ve seen this line almost out the door -” But she waved him away and hurried back outside.

— The man immediately in front of us came back out and basically asked the older man checking I.D.s the same questions and then grumbled, “It’s almost as if they want to discourage us from voting.” The current ‘Government’/regime has rushed through a 1984 double speak type bill called “The Fair Elections Act” or something very close to that. The bill – which was passed into law – took a lot of power away from Elections Canada – and severely limited their ability to investigate claims of election fraud, among other new limitations imposed upon the agency which is supposed to insure fair and honest elections.  — The Harper ‘Government’ has also had a lot of its party members convicted of Election Fraud – such as setting up “Robo-Calls” to deliver mis-information to voters not likely to vote for their party’s candidates. Quite a few members of the Harper ‘Government’ have been investigated and charged with not just questionable ethics, but outright illegal practices, claiming travel expenses to homes in distant provinces they never visited, claiming residence in various provinces when they actually lived in the Ottawa area, writing $90,000.00 + cheques that looked way too much like a bribe to keep a sitting Senator from squawking about a bill that may or may not have been fraudulently submitted, depending on what the final ruling will be in a situation where Senate Ethics were so vague that teams of lawyers couldn’t agree on what was or wasn’t allowed. And then there was a stream of minor stuff, like submitting fraudulent claims for travel expenses, demanding five star hotel services, submitting incredible invoices like $16.00 for a glass of orange juice – complaining that snacks in their first class airplane compartment were served too cold and on broken crackers.

— But anyway, back in the line, waiting to cast a ballot in the advanced voting line – One woman began to fill out a ‘feedback’ form that was supposed to be feedback on accessibility, one of the volunteers brought a chair over so the woman could sit down if she wanted – Then one senior citizen, wondering why there was only one polling booth pointed to two women sitting at a table with signs up declaring that this table was for Registering to Vote, and wondered what they were doing there. Nobody spoke to the man in the sort of derisive tones I have expected to hear, ( like, “Read the sign, you moron, they’re here to register people who haven’t registered yet.” ) and I was happy to see that everybody was courteous and friendly and nobody was belligerent –

— And there were several young children running around the gym, playing tag, getting down and rolling around on the floor – one girl who was probably about five years old told a boy who around the same age that she wanted him to ask her to marry him. One of the younger voters behind us laughed and quietly said, “Woa – I bet she’s going to be trouble in a few years.”

— We were happy to see that maybe half the people in line, especially those behind us, appeared to be young adults, from the 18 to 24 year old group which has a bad record for turning out to vote – about 38% of those eligible to vote actually voted in the last Federal Election.

— But the line moved more quickly than we expected and we were in and out in less than half an hour. And watching the kids run around and make happy noises while we waited in line was a definite plus.

— One note I might add: Concerning Polls – Two networks: CTV and CBC – one of them says their polls indicate that if everyone voted the way they responded to pollsters – The Liberal Party would win the most seats, about ten more than the second place Conservatives. The other one had opposite results, projecting that the Conservatives would have their candidates elected in about ten more ‘ridings’ than the Liberals would. Both polling outfits count the NDP (New Democratic Party) in 3rd place right now, one network says the NDP has the approval of about 23% of those polled and the other network says the NDP would get about 26.5% of the votes, if everybody actually cast their ballots according to what they told the pollsters. One network says the NDP is gaining support right now, the other one says the NDP is losing support these days.

— Cathi shrugged last night and told me, “The thing about polls – is – nobody thought the NDP had a prayer in the provincial elections in Alberta last spring, and they won that one handily. Nobody saw that coming.”

— And another thing — The Niqab ‘issue’ — This one really baffles me. The Prime Minister is getting so much traction from this non issue that he’s promising to ban Federal Employees from wearing Niqabs or serving anybody who is wearing one, claiming this is a security issue. WHAT??? – People in Quebec have been having fun this since the ruling went down that the Supreme Court said it was a person’s right to vote with her (or his) face covered, as long as the identity of that person was confirmed. The Prime Minister’s Office tried to object to that ruling but got nowhere. One guy in Montreal voted wearing clown make up. A woman somewhere in Quebec voted wearing a burlap sack over her head with eye slits open. There have been others who voted wearing masks.

— I can’t wait to see a Facebook Page: “Idiots Against Niqabs” – Bet’cha it “goes viral” –

Autmn leaves behind the Church Parking lot.

Local people say the Autumn Leaves are late in turning this year. Some blame Climate Change, some shrug it off and say something like, “The weather has been weird this year, it stayed warm longer than usual,” and aren’t ready to ‘buy into’ ‘Global Warming’ or ‘Climate Change’ just yet.

More Autmn leaves on trees beyond the church parking lot.

Here’s another shot of trees beyond the same church parking lot as the leaves are turning.

Work on a section of road that was washed out in floods

This shot, taken on October sixth from the passenger’s seat in our dodge van as we drove Cathi’s daughter back to the airport so she could fly home to the Toronto area, shows a lot of progress in repairing a section of the vital highway between Fredericton and its airport, where water from an unprecedented deluge – rushing in a flooded stream – didn’t feel like waiting to squeeze through a culvert that was much too narrow – The water pushed the culvert, and a lot of ‘earth’ – several meters East – taking the road surface with it. This scene was much more spectacular the day we picked our visitor up from the airport, but I was too busy enjoying her company and didn’t even think of grabbing the camera and recording the newsworthy event. Bad Me….

— I better quit here and post this before I reach 100,000 words in a single post.–,

Grey, Damp Friday – & Why Do Spammers Spam?

Friday, October 9th, 2015 -( 8˚C / 48˚F Grey, damp, threatening rain @ 2:07 pm in Atlantic Canada )- Today would have been John Lennon’s 75th Birthday.

Family of deer in shade on snowy hillside.

Part of The Committee last winter. A telephoto shot using the ‘sports’ setting, I’m happy with the results and I did not have to take half a dozen shots before I got one steady enough.

— The committee put in an appearance this morning. We don’t have any oats yet, I tossed out a couple pieces of bread. -Didn’t see them come find and eat them, they were busy up closer to our neighbours’ feeding station. But when I just checked – somebody got the bread.

— It looks like somebody else tried to sign up for something with a close variation of my name on gmail. This one’s in Massachusetts.

— In an interview on CBC One this morning. Three First Nations people, each supporting one of the ‘three leading contenders’ for prime minister in the election on the 19th – They were asked about issues important to First Nations people, and if they thought of felt that the three parties were paying enough attention to First Nations People and their issues.

— One person said she believed that Tom Mulcair was the only party leader paying attention to First Nations. Another person believed that Justin Trudeau’s promise of making higher education more accessible to everybody earned his vote and one guy from Saskatoon actually liked the Conservatives, believing their propaganda about wanting to lower taxes.

— Sigh, I feel like I’ve been run over by a truck.

— Dreamed Cousin Glenn picked up and read something I was writing and really liked it- He drove us somewhere, we stopped in an out of the way diner where the waitress was peddling herself for extra money. My sister Sharon was there with her kids, and they were between the ages of six and fifteen (?) There was also a young girl there who might have been a friend of my sister’s boys. The waitress covered herself with a table cloth and began catering to my cousin and his slightly beligerant friend. I was sitting at another table with my sister, thinking about what I might say if the waitress approached me as a customer – ( “Nope – sorry – I don’t have any little blue pills with me?” ) And I was hoping the kids wouldn’t be able to figure out what was going on at the other table and/or why the waitress had crawled under the table with a table cloth draped over her back, head and shoulders.

— Sigh.

— Then a weird buzz woke me up. I’m pretty sure that Moe, the cat, heard it too, he looked like he was wondering what had made that noise. I told Cathi about the buzz and she wondered if somebody had called her cell phone. She checked it out as she got ready for work and if somebody had called her they probably realized they’d dialed a wrong number and hung up after one buzz.

— I sat down to write some more, add to one of the novels I have going, and felt like I was being bombarded by weird radiation from the computer monitor – radiation that was designed to confuse and distract and disorient me so I couldn’t concentrate enough to write anything. Then I got distracted by more interviews on the radio.

— When I woke up the computer I was facing the “Sorry – Firefox blew up again – “screen and when I restarted Firefox I was staring at a page that told me that this blog still had 1,234 spam comments that the spam filter hadn’t gone back and deleted like it said it would.

— So I spent something like an hour deleting spam comments and emptying trash.

— There was only one comment in the file that might have looked like its author was a human being but it could have been a pre-written form thing in which a clever little routine inserted the name of the blog and the page or article the comment had latched on to and could have been applied to any page or posting on any blog in the English language, where-as most of the spam is mis-spelled and has words that might have been mis-translated from some other language. Most of them claimed their web sites were variations on “Cheap Stylish Brand Name” Schnarr like Ray-Ban sunglasses or Air Jordan Running Shoes.

— Made me wonder why the people behind those robotic ‘comments’ do what they do. Are they so desperate for money that they spend all the time and effort to program that doo doo and then push return and hope that one or two out of a million blogs the robots find actually allow their nonsense to get through and then maybe if so many bored or curious readers click on their links they might get a penny or two for every hundred clicks?

— Or is it more insidious? Is there hidden malware in their links? – hidden in some kind of control characters that are invisible to almost every browser?

— Ehhh ? Am I better off just plain giving up on the human race, figuring that they’re a bunch of evil greedy beligerant ice holes out to exploit each other?

— Naaaaa –.

— I’ll just go lay down and try to catch up on the sleep I lost a long time ago –,

And The Propaganda Wars Drag On –

Wednesday, 07 October, 2015 -( 17˚C / 63˚F & Sunny, Clear, and Beautifully Warm-ish Autumnal-like @3:30 pm in Atlantic Canada )-

— We got Political Propaganda mail today. The Conservatives want everybody to believe that only a complete Ice-Hole would vote for anybody but a Conservative. But their name-calling, smug posturing, nasty b.s. – even if it only resonates with those who never matured beyond the “I know you are, but what am I?” idiocy – seems to be proving effective. This does not say anything good or ‘nice’ about the Canadian electorate.

— There’s a saying in the U.S.A., “No Republican ever lost an election by underestimating the intelligence of the American voter.” You should read this, “Republicans and Conservatives have made a science out of appealing to the lowest, most base attitudes and habits of our contemporaries. Negative ads have been proven to stick in the minds of the television-viewing public, Television programing has always been aimed at viewers with the intelligence and maturity of an average six year old. Do you feel like you’ve been dumbed down? No, most of us believe everybody else has been dumbed down and we somehow escaped the mind numbing effects of living in today’s toxic environment and toxic social atmosphere.

— Will they get away with it? Will the vitriole spewing, brain dead, negative script reading parrots assume their mob-pleasing postures and attack the right minorities and use their time tested agenda, scape goating anyone who doesn’t quite look like the ruling elite and will all those who have been convinced that they should emulate the powerful in order to get ahead and take a meaningful place in this not-quite-sane, nowhere-near-as-nice-as-we’ve-been-told-it-is world drink the poisoned cool-aid and vote the evil ones into office for another couple years?

— I hope not.

— As often as it looks like the planet is waking up and realize we’ve been lied to, manipulated, pushed around and worse by the puppets who believe they belong to the ruling elite — and we just might be on the verge of throwing away the blinders and taking control of our own minds and hearts and souls and moving our world closer to the ‘Heaven on Earth’ we’ve always known it could be … it also looks like the evil dark liars from hell are laughing all the way to their banks. Have they won another round?

— Dear God, How did we ever free our minds and souls from this sort of nonsense?

— Tune in on a week from next Monday and find out >>—>

— Prayers help, ya know, it’s been scientifically proven. But prayers probably can’t change the votes of brain dead puppets and marionettes.

Company –

Friday, October 2nd, 2015.

Dual Prop plane taxi-ing on an airport runway.

An Air Canada flight had just landed and was being guided into place at the terminal in Fredericton, NB. It was a grey day, But a passenger on this flight brought a special kind of sunshine to us while she visited for much too short a time, as usual.

— My favourite step daughter and Cathi’s and my favourite nurse (the same person) flew out for much too short a visit on Friday, and I’ve been much too busy enjoying her company to take a lot of photos. I think Cathi got at least one good one as she took several shots with her spiffy new-ish cell phone when we gathered around our kitchen table for an early Thanksgiving dinner. Maybe I’ll be able to steal one of those and insert it here –

— { I probably should have taken a photo of the washed out bit of Lincoln Road on our way to or from the airport. Last Wednesday brought us a rain event that dumped over one hundred milimeters of rain on us, and destroyed sections of several roads and bridges around here. One road now has an ‘eight meter deep’ crater in a spot that had been a perfectly normal section of road on Tuesday- &  Gad –  what a mess we saw. Looks like an angry flood wiped out a section of road and pushed the culvert it couldn’t fit through several meters downstream. I think the crater we encountered was probably three meters deep and more like ten or fifteen meters wide. An emergency bit of beautifully engineered make shift road had been crafted through a part of that crater, thank goodness and probably thank something like a department of highways, or engineers from the huge armed forces base a little bit father south beyond the airport. & I probably shouldn’t mention here that some of our favourite Conspiracy Investigators believe that many of these colossal weather events have been purposefully engineered to keep us all off center and easily manipulated by nasty governments that will try to convince you that their draconian orders are meant to keep you safe from weather gone crazy and other dangers that, in the end, will not be half as dangerous as those governments. }

Hey Jim,

I should try to learn not to let this stuff upset me, but I can’t —

— 1.) Yesterday I heard an economist being interviewed on the radio tell a reporter that for all the jobs the current Prime Minister of Canada is trying to brag that he created with ‘his economic policy’ – the real income of Canadians has not risen at all – The Economist ( a human guy, not the magazine ) said that this would shine a brilliant warning light to economists everywhere that the Canadian economy is in deep trouble.

— 2.) Shortly after that interview aired we heard that the PMO (Prime Minister’s Office) sent out a call to all news agencies to send their reporters to where the Prime Minister would be making an important announcement. *Claxton Warning #1* The PMO and the Prime Minister should be seen – and heard – as making a huge ethical faux pas by framing this announcement as a political event during the current political election season here in Canada. Dictators in 3rd world countries have been shot for less. Dictators in ‘First World’ countries have been seized by angry mobs, dragged through the streets and butchered in town squares for less.  — well, maybe the trigger of the butchering event would have come after years of egregious violation of human rights, which seems to be the earmark of Dictators everywhere. The ‘proverbial’ straw that breaks the camel’s back is often comparatively minor compared to other crimes against humanity and all that other stuff that dictators are so good at.

— 3.) When the reporters were all duly assembled, the Prime Minister announced that the Trans Pacific ‘Parnership’ had been agreed to in principal and would now be going to all twelve ‘Partner’ countries’ legislatures for review and endorsement – And the Prime Minister grinned broadly and did all he could to accept ‘credit’ for what he would like you to believe is a real triumph of negotiations and a wonderful thing that would help him go down in history as a brilliant and benevolent ‘Leader’ of ‘This Great Country’ and crown him with all sorts of legendary glory for being a ‘right headed visionary’ and saving the Canadian economy in a very dark hour.

— 4.) Ralph Nader went on the record a short time later, labeling the Trans Pacific Partnership a thinly veiled atrocity put together by the most clever corporate lawyers who haven’t yet been lined up against the wall and shot by the honest people they swindled and sold into slavery – And he called the “TPP” itself an attempt to strip duly elected governments of their sovereignty and place them under the rule of multi-National Corporations.

— 5.) Why hasn’t anybody coined the phrase ‘Supra-National Corporations’ yet?

— 6.) The current Prime Minister of Canada is one of those idiots suffering from testosterone poisoning, who believes that if he says anything with enough force and conviction in his voice, no matter how egregious a lie the statement is when he pronounces it, that statement will become truth by the force of his will.

— 7.) You Cannot Trust Stephen Harper. For all the many deals he claims he and his cronies have negotiated in favour of the citizens of Canada – Canada is not one iota better off. In fact Stephen Harper’s policies have screwed Canada, screwed Canadians, stripped Canadians of their rights and freedoms, ruined their economy and pushed Canada way down the ‘slippery slope’ toward the kind of economic slavery ‘enjoyed’ by every other third world nation on this planet.

— 8.) Don’t believe me? If this stupid ‘partnership’ goes through it won’t be long before you see in front of your own eyes just how bad a situation you allowed yourselves to be sold into can be.

— 9.) Schnarr!

Fourteen Days Before Canada’s 2015 Federal Elections

Monday, 05 October, 2015 -(10˚C / 50˚F — ‘dark’ & cool @ 11:11 pm in Atlantic Canada )-

The Woodstock, New Brunswick area had a by-election today, The ‘Progressive Conservative’ candidate won the seat in the Legislative Assembly that was vacated by the ex Premier of New Brunswick – David Alward, resigned and/or gave up the seat when his party was voted out of power by the Provincial Liberals, who won more seats than the PC party held onto and/or won in the last Provincial Election.

The Liberal candidate in today’s by-election came in second, but gained more votes in this traditionally Conservative Riding.

— Let me see if this blog is okay, there’s a couple error messages on this page as I’m trying to write this.

Half Past September?

Friday, September 18th, 2015 -( 26˚C / 79˚F — Warm and quiet with darkness approaching @ 7:30 pm in Atlantic Canada )-

Cathi and Greg admiring Greg's handmade breadboard.

Cathi and Greg looking at a handmade bread board that Greg just gave us during his visit with his sister on a whirlwind tour of The Maritimes –

— My long time best friend Greg and his sister Nina stayed with us for a couple nights during their vacation and sightseeing trip around New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and a little bit of Nova Scotia this week. Before they left Greg rolled out a blanket and showed us the beautiful hand-made bread boards and cribbage boards he designs and creates and brings with him to flea markets where he sells them and takes special orders – Then he surprised us by asking Cathi to pick one and keep it as a gift. She chose a round one made of a dark-ish wood that almost matches the dark cherry stain she likes a lot.

One small corner of the blanket with the round bread board that Cathi chose and hints of some of Greg’s other work.

— We haven’t traveled south to visit the United States much in the past several years. I think I dashed down alone myself twice last year, once to see my sister and mother and family and friends as mom and my sister dashed around New England on March Break as they visited from Alaska, and once in July I think, to finally empty out a storage unit with stuff that I’d been storing since 2002, when mom sold the old hacienda and moved to Alaska and I packed everything I could into an old hatchback Chevy Corsica and drove to Ontario to apply for extended visitor status, then permanent residence and then dual citizenship to be with Cathi, who had captured my heart and imagination without trying :).

— Wow- I explained some of that to Greg’s sister and relived the first glimpse I had of my beautiful ‘amour fou’ after we’d communicated through the internet and then over the phone for a couple of years, read each other’s creative writing and trouble-shot each other’s web site editing. Yup, I lost my heart with our first hug and I still think my brain went out looking for my heart and never found its way back — That might explain a few things.

— But reconnecting with Greg and his sister, even if we didn’t have enough time to sit down and catch up on everything that’s happened around us in the past 45 years – (yikes-) started a few creative juices flowing and connected a few dots that gave me the jolt I needed to figure out what might be missing in the huge and incredibly rambling/meandering novel I’ve been writing since 1968 — Funny how connecting with friends can give us the nudge we need to see past problematic obstacles like silly plot twists that either have to go or might be explained completely elegantly by an infusion of insight triggered by unexpected events and happy conversations with friends whose subtle influence and presence in our lives was something we didn’t realize we’d missed so badly.

Parallel Worlds – Quantum Physics or Just Weird Dreams –

Wednesday, September 9th, 2015 -( 17˚C / 63˚F — Cloudy, damp & wet outside @11:11 am in Atlantic Canada )- It’s my cousin K.C.’s birthday –

Blurry flowers foreground right- tortoise shell cat in the driveway, grey-blue house in the background.

I could have used a tripod and shot two nearly identical photos here with one set on macro to get the flowers in focus and the other set normal to get the house in focus with our neighbour’s cat in focus too, slinking across our driveway after a reconnaissance mission. and then carefully edited the photos in photoshop, which is a whole lot easier than the old way of attempting to create a shot like that from two negatives. This was yesterday, before noon, before the rain came overnight. -Jim-

— I dreamed we were discovering shark fins sticking up through the ground. Some of them were still trying to move. I was walking around with Cathi and at least one scientific investigator type while we hypothesized that the barrier between our world and a parallel world wasn’t functioning properly – that maybe the coastline was just a little bit different. We weren’t afraid the sharks could burst out of the ground in their struggles, they were stuck in solid ground, some of them in solid rock. The scientist was wondering if this dimensional barrier losing its integrity thing explained a rash of missing people, some of whom had vanished in the blink of an eye. We weren’t worried that we might be the next victims.

— I woke up and glanced at the clock, it was 7:57 am. Cathi had already gotten up, got dressed, had breakfast, and left for work. I almost always wake up around 7, get up, and push the button that starts her morning coffee brewing. – We haven’t spent the extra hundred dollars it would take to buy a ‘smart’ coffee maker that we could program to brew the coffee at the same time every morning – & I’ve developed a mistrust for ‘smart’ appliances and the electronic pollution they emit, and especially ‘smart meters’ that emit so much electronic pollution that quite a few people have a lot of trouble sleeping as soon as the ice-holes from the power companies with their ulterior motives install the bluddy things. So many ‘smart meters’ have spontaneously burst into flame that they’ve been outlawed in some places. They should be outlawed everywhere. Anyway – when I got my eyes half-open I couldn’t find the dog, who is usually either on the floor beside the bed or up on the bed, having taken advantage of us being asleep and not objecting to the 125 pound dog trying to wedge himself between us.

— I got up and stumbled around. Everything was grey outside, and very wet. Rain had been forecast. It wasn’t raining. Nothing was moving. There was no hint of a breeze and at almost precisely eight o’clock in the morning, no cars were zooming up or down the main north and south road that’s between 75 and 100 feet or meters from our living room door. It was almost spooky. I remembered stories told by people who believed they had somehow stumbled into a weird zone between dimensions where they were out of phase – where buildings were there, but no life – and they’d reported that the light was weird – darker than they thought it should have been. I think one husband and wife team being interviewed in a paranormal spot on the radio described this, said they got to where they were going but nothing seemed right, not even bugs were moving there. I forget how they blundered back across the border into our ‘normal’ world, but they were immensely relieved when they did.

— I looked around, couldn’t see the cat or the dog. The cat can find places to hide and we both swear he can teleport around inside the house, and maybe anywhere else he might want to go – at will – but not finding the dog was a bit worrisome. I stepped out into the glassed-in porch Cathi calls our front porch, I think of as either the back porch or a side porch – and looked around. No dog, no cat, nothing moving outside, everything very wet. Except for the fact that I could turn doorknobs and open and close doors I could have begun to worry that I’d either left my physical body in the bedroom and was moving around in ‘astral’ form or might have died in my sleep-

— I went back into the bedroom and looked around again. I couldn’t find the dog at first, but I hadn’t turned the light on and our big black Labrador can sometimes quite effectively blend in with shadows. I called him by his nickname – “Boof-” and one shadow moved. I was surprised at how much relief I felt. The boof wanted to lead me to the refrigerator and have me give him a piece of bread or other treat for having saved my sanity and on the way the orange cat appeared from under the kitchen table and said, “Unga mah mara-” which means something like, “Hi there, you’re up and around, thank you for the cat treats you better give me if you don’t want your bare legs shredded-” and smiled a big happy passive-aggressive smile.

— I won’t say that everything is right with the world, But at least I haven’t fallen through into a parallel dimension, or something worse, like a dimension where everything familiar is in a state of suspended animation, with me the only living thing moving around. It would be a real bummer to find proof that quantum theory works on this level and not be able to tell anybody about that-

— Happy Wednesday –,

Stages of Moral Growth & The Politix of Mean – The Politix of Fear

Stages in Moral Growth

& The Politix of Fear – The Politix of Mean

— I think it was  1968, The Boston Globe published an article by or about an academic type that explained Stages in Moral Growth – This may have been a book review, I believe it was in the Sunday Edition of that newspaper. & What vividly sticks in my memory is the idea that – unlike most other growth processes, those who are at a lower level of Moral Growth believe that those who have grown and adopted a higher level or Morality are actually either immoral or amoral. I’ll explain that a bit further in a bit.

===

— Here are the levels – with my own labels: It should be noted that, like Freud’s theory of ‘Libido’ – Traumatic events that occur to those at lower levels may make it much more difficult for an individual to progress and/or grow to a higher level. The process is not automatic. Social pressures, governmental pressures, authoritarian pressures, peer pressures, the fear of legal consequences – may conspire to scare all but the strongest individuals out of considering advancing/growing/evolving to a higher level.

===

— Level One — “Infantile” — Whatever feels good is Right and Good. — It’s bad to be hungry. It’s bad to be wet or sitting in a soiled diaper. It’s Good to be warm and dry and have a full belly. It’s Good to have a Mommy or a Daddy smile and talk to you –

— Level Two — “Toddler” — Whatever Mommy and Daddy say is Good is Good and Right. — Mommy and Daddy ( or whoever is filling those roles in your eyes ) are the ultimate authority in your known universe. They pretty much know everything worth knowing, They’ve told you that it’s bad to touch a hot stove, and it’s bad to run into the road without stopping and looking all ways and maybe even waiting for Mommy or Daddy to tell you it’s okay to proceed.

— Level Three — “Grammar School” — Living by a child’s peer group’s values becomes more important than following the rules that Mommy and Daddy have laid down at home.

*** Here’s where the bit about those who are at a lower level can become obvious: If your peer group says ‘Smoking is Cool’ and a younger brother or sibling sees you smoking. That younger sibling will most likely believe you are ‘being bad’, because Mommy and Daddy told you that smoking is bad. And if your younger sibling tells Mommy and Daddy, then you will believe that younger sibling is being a ‘stool pigeon’ and you and your peer group will believe that telling on you is a bad thing. ***

— Level Four — “Middle School” — “My Country Right Or Wrong!” — It begins with the belief that your school is the best and rival schools are the enemy. It usually expands to the belief that your town is Good, and the Right place to live and the next town might be something like the enemy, especially if they’re involved in competition for tax money to complete projects, build schools, improve roads – and so on. You may then grow to believe that your State or Province is full of the good guys and a neighboring State or Province is populated by bad guys. So when your government tells you that another country is evil and you need to go to war to punish them for what they tell you is a crime against your Country, your King or Queen, or President or Prime Minister, then of course — going to war against those sub-human monsters would be the right thing to do.

— Level Five — “Conscientious / Rigid” — “- ‘Thou Shalt Not Kill’ does not mean ‘Thou Shalt Not Kill Unless Your King And Country Tells You To.’ – ”  — This is a level that not a lot of men and women evolve to. It takes a lot of courage to make a giant step away from the beliefs and values of the majority of your friends and neighbors. Governments and Churches have tried to muddy the waters here by invoking ‘Jihad’ and ‘Crusades’ philosophies, to try to convince everybody that ‘God is on Our Side!’ & they try to convince everybody that they want to control that ‘Conscientious Objectors’ are cowards.

*** The Academic Type guy who wrote the book explained that most members of the World War II Generation were firmly stuck in the ‘My Country Right Or Wrong’ stage and that a lot of – especially American – youth who had grown up in an era of peace and plenty – had evolved to a higher moral level than their parents and this is why the movement against the Viet Nam ‘Police Action’ was so divisive. ***

— Level Six — “Conscientious / Extenuating Circumstances” — “Wait a minute – Let me think this through -” — This is the highest level the Academic guy explained. — Here’s where the most conscientious people go through a personal re-evaluation and come up with, “Okay, I have believed that it’s wrong to kill under any circumstances – but – If I fail to act and allow a murderer to kill innocent people, have I become an accomplice? – If I try to wound somebody I see aiming a rifle at a child and accidentally kill that person, would this be not only justifiable, but a good thing? Is putting my immortal soul in jeopardy to save a life something that God would find acceptable?”

===

— Do not blindly accept that the above is Right and Correct. Do not blindly accept that anything I say is true, right and correct without testing the ideas, values, and principles, or checking the data. My opinions are my own. I’ve come to embrace those opinions the hard way, struggling one at a time to test and weigh pros and cons and all the various degrees between ‘ultimately right’ and ‘completely wrong’.

===

— Yesterday, Labour Day –  Two candidates for federal office –  running under the Conservative Party of Canada’s banner – were ‘fired’ for ‘questionable behaviour’ One guy, running in the Scarborough area of Ontario, not far from Toronto – who had been self-employed as a contractor – was caught on video urinating into his client’s coffee mug and then dumping the urine into the client’s sink where he was working on the faucet. Another guy – who was running in a section of Toronto – was ‘outed’ for recording and posting on YouTube = several telephone conversations in which he subjected women to sexist insults and other telephone conversations in which he made fun of handicapped/challenged citizens.

— The Politix of Mean: Members of the Conservative Party of Canada are not the only ones in politics who have exhibited a Mean Streak. I have close friends who believe that Conservatives may have refined their ‘mean speak’ more diligently than others – sharpened and developed it as a tool that they believe will help them get elected, and/or stay elected. There have been scholarly studies that reached the conclusion that negative political ads have much more impact than positive political ads. My spouse used to ride a bus with thirty and forty something year-olds whose conversations sounded like a script written for high school students in a programme like “mean girls”. She shuddered and wondered how the people she rode with every day never outgrew the attitudes, postures and mocking tones of voice they probably developed in high school or even middle school.

— There has been a television barrage of negative political ads in which several actors pretending to be a corporate board of executives are reviewing the job application of the leader of Canada’s Liberal Party – These actors look and sound like a high school clique making fun of classmates they would never consider allowing to join their inner circle. They make accusations they don’t back up with facts and accuse non-Conservative Party candidates of wanting to take money out of the pockets of parents throughout Canada – and cite programmes that have been criticized for only benefiting millionaires. They claim that the Liberal Leader has promised to get rid of a programme they claim is giving much-needed funds to families who need it the most when news stories have pointed out that the current Conservative Government has ended a programme that gave money to parents of children and replaced it with a program that on the surface, gives those parents money, but when researched more deeply, is a taxable benefit, which – after taxes – ‘gives’ an average family $13.19 a month where the other program, the one they got rid of, gave them hundreds and didn’t ‘claw back’ anything. This morning I heard people who responded to a call in show that asked ‘un-committed’ voters to explain their concerns, and it seems that too many of those voters believe the propaganda behind the political ads and haven’t learned that the money they’ve been promised is not a give-away, but a political gimmick that will be severely reduced when it is clawed back at tax time. And nobody reminded anybody that the government had scuttled the program that had been giving people who needed help a lot more help that this new and highly touted program would actually deliver.

— Before that call-in show aired this morning, someone else had called in a previous program and said that when the Conservative Prime Minister called for this election and established a much longer campaign period than the usual month-long period between announcing the election and Election Day – which has been the Canadian standard – The Prime Minister did this with the smug assurance that his party had a much larger ‘War Chest’ than any other party and was probably secure in his belief that the party who spends the most during an election receives the most votes.

— My ‘gut’ feeling is The Prime Minister will more than likely wake up the morning after the election smugly looking forward to a nice, comfortable, well paid retirement.

— One thing that will probably come back to bite the Conservative Party during this election is, no matter how much money they have to spend on memorable negative attack ads. The fact that the sitting Conservative Government closed down quite a few needed Veterans Administration offices at the height of a crisis in which a lot of returning vets were being given the run-around, were being denied help after being diagnosed with PTSD, and were committing suicide in epidemic numbers. The Minister in charge of Veterans Affairs then announced that he was giving the Prime Minister a cheque for a billion dollars that would have been used to serve Veterans through those closed down office. This has not been lost on a group that the Conservatives have historically counted as being firmly behind them. Veterans groups all around Canada have begun a campaign they’re calling “A.B.C.” – “Anyone But Conservatives”

===

— The Politix of Fear.

— Another core group of Conservative Supporters – Hard Core Supporters – are the “Law and Order” group who live their lives in fear – or at least anxiety – that the ‘criminal element’ will destroy their health, forcefully relieve them of their wealth, and threaten their family security.

— In recent years, the US government has been practicing the politix of fear, finding that when they can convince the American public that there are terrorists out there actively plotting to blow up buildings and kill American citizens where they live, they can get most American citizens to happily surrender most of their rights and freedoms. Homeland Security appears to be a glowing success. When a government can create an atmosphere of fear it becomes very difficult for most citizens to calm down and yell, ‘Hey wait a minute – this is bull chips! – There weren’t any communist spies hiding under everybody’s beds in the nineteen fifties and there are not a million terrorists sneaking into hometown America every ten minutes ready to jump out, rape our women and children and brutally butcher your gawd-awful tax base!”

— There are quite a few people standing up and saying, “It was the C.I.A. who Created al-Qaeda” “It was C.I.A. trained agents who created ISIS.” “Governments have murdered more of their own Citizens than all foreign armies in all the wars in the last century. This includes World Wars I & II -” Werner Von Braun told his close friends that ‘Intelligence Groups’ would manipulate us into the cold war and keep us afraid the Russians might attack us in our sleep until that message no longer resonated, and then they would manipulate a fear campaign that ‘rogue nations’ would unleash what sounds an awful lot like the ‘Terrorist Actions’ they are keeping us off-center and easily pushed around now. & when the fear of Rogue Nations/terrorists no longer scared enough of us into blindly surrendering our rights and freedoms – the dark ops intelligence groups would launch an attack in broad daylight using very advanced secretly developed flying machines and claim that we were being attacked by a new enemy from outer space.

— These people will do anything to keep us ‘under their control’. And fear has always been the most effective weapon that they use against their own people.

— The Current Canadian Government seems to believe they should follow the US model and use well-chosen lies and propaganda to spread the atmosphere of constant Fear throughout Canada as a ploy, which, when coupled with their lies that they’re the only ones prepared to protect Canadians from whatever boogeymen they can convince us are hiding under every bed and around every corner – this just might keep them in power forever, at our expense.

— Don’t buy it —

— But then again, in 2011 my spouse and I were enjoying dinner in a ‘down home’ mom & pop type restaurant in the Ottawa area of Ontario when a group who looked like farmers were gathered at a table near us, enjoying each others’ company and chatting over dinner, telling jokes and looking friendly. But then one guy, probably in his forties, growled, frowned and barked out, “Hey, did all of you hear what ‘Taliban-Jack’ said this afternoon?” Referring to Jack Layton, then Leader of the NDP, who was calling for reason in the face of an anti-Taliban propaganda campaign and not to commit the lives of Canadian Soldiers to fight somebody else’s battles in a war that he believed was mis-directed and one we couldn’t win.

— We came to the realization that we lived in an area where too many voters had been brain washed to the point where they would gladly vote for a dead goat as long as that dead goat ran under the Conservative Party’s banner.

— Don’t vote for anyone who believes there is such a thing as “The Great Unwashed”.

— Don’t vote for anyone who believes they know better than you do how you should live your life.
