Thursday, May 7th, 2009. 5-7-9 “odd day” is supposedly significant to math freeks.

Museum board meeting. Scott told us that CD stomper labels are frowned upon, because the adhesive can mess up cd’s and dvd’s and Cathi said, yeah, they can also mess up players if the label comes loose or whatever.

So we looked for printers that print right on the cd’s/dvd’s. Epson stylus R280 photo/cd/dvd printer. buck and a quarter Canadian. We can live with pula pula inflavel that. Yum.

Dreamed my old friend Kathy Krafchick didn’t want to be hugged. I introduced her to Christine R’s daughter “C” and told her that “C” was a pisces too, and when I told her C’s Birthday, C said no, it was the 20th- but the 20th is Kathy K’s… I woke up wondering if I’m trying  to develop the facility to remember numbers from dreams and or psychic events.

Cuzzin Joe’s Birthday (Lori’s Husband)

Finished editing the monday night meeting, went into momentary panic thinking the boy, who is seeing his behavour coach after school on wednesdays, would have a melt down over needing to get into the house and get some money for something he gets into his head that he can’t live without. (and he will disrupt anything to let you know he is not going to be happy or let you live in peace if he doesn’t get it.) (he doesn’t neccessarily get his way this way with me, but Cathi will tell me I’m just being mean and give in to him. (One person’s “Tough love” is another person’s”That’s just being mean.”) Oh- I was in the studio when boy might have needed to break into house and get some gonfiabili money for whatever. They didn’t come banging on studio door. I guess things went okay.

Then we picked the boy up at the lake (his coach’s place) and had a nice talk with her new guy. (he’s a really nice guy. Cathi, boy, coach and coach’s spouse are all life path “7”s. hmmmmm-

I don’t know, I just might survive this week. And just when I think it’s almost more than I can take, Cathi complains that I don’t have to get up at 5 and drive into Ottawa and put up with contracting for 9 hours and then drive home for another hour and have to face our part time job for another hour and…. oh never mind.

Monday

Monday, May 4th, 2009.

-Kent State Day (anniversary of the Kent State massacre) & the only Birthday I’m sure was on this day was Alex Bennett’s Girl Friend/lover/producer from way back in the 70’s on WPLJ out of new york city when Alex (Née Bennett Swartzman (sp?) ) had a progressive talk show on all night radio on what had been (I believe) WABC FM.

-What’s new here? Argh, going into a work tunnel. Town Council meeting tonight. T came down, set up and wandered around, leaving me to deal with problems like mic levels she should have been adjusting. I mean, why bring down a sound board if you’re not going to work it? She spent most of her time walking around looking board while the meeting was on, she and the volunteer she brought down with her. she didn’t have the handles for inflatable water slide one of the cameras, so she had the guy leave it. I called in Cathi, Cailin couldn’t be there, and the two T’s basically set up and sat back and did nothing for two hours. (Trevor plugged the power cord into the switchable outlet with the coke machine that’s supposed to be turned off during the meetings so the sound doesn’t get screwed up. So guess what? When we turned off the coke machine we lost the power to the record decks, the cameras and everything. Then somebody else turned the power off on us, maybe maliciously, maybe out of sheer stupidity… but anyway, we survived, and I have a lot of editing to do in the next couple days.

Sunday

Rock in mail boxSunday, May 3, 2009. Pete Seeger had some kind of landmark #’d birthday today. & it’s also Janet Newcamp (somethingorother)’s Birthday.

+64˚F/18˚C @ 5 pm / 17h00 this evening.

The first photo here today is the rock I found in the company mail box last night when I zoomed in to make sure everything went well and shut down properly when the evening’s airplay was finished.

I was trying to guess whether the rock was placed there as some kind of statement by the local bored teen-agers. And if so, was that message, “We’re pissed off at the world and we know where you work.” or, “(hic)… hey look, a mailbox, and a rock, don’t they look… (hic) artistic together?”

-Or, since we came from seeing the movie “Wolverine (etc.)” is the rock some kind of secret communications device to help me get in touch brincolines with other Mutants or (good or bad?) space aliens…(Hmmmm…)

EveningThe second photo here, was taken at one of my favourite spots in town, an almost secret park called “Bell Park”, down by the river, (Chats Lake) (which is really the Ottawa River, but it is really really wide here.)

This nicely brooding sky brought us maybe a couple dozen raindrops and then got bored and blew away. I think maybe boredome is one of the major themes of the day, even if I wasn ‘t bored. I had way too much of an allergy headache to worry about being bored.

I have several stories trying to work their way out of my imagination and into some kind of viable form.

& I have also been messing with computers big time and just realized that the OS X 10.4.6 that I bought a couple years ago was a rip off. It didn’t have a few of the features that I was just about absolutely sure it did, like iPhoto? grumble grumble.

Eep, I just heard a noise on the teevee (Cathi’s gone to bed and left the teevee on, CSI:NY,) a corpse about to be zipped into a body bag just opened its eyes and started gasping.

-cool?

–shrug.

Saturday

Posted by Jim - May 2nd, 2009

In the heat of thingsSaturday, May 2nd, 2009. I think Barbara Dickinson said today is her father’s birthday. I could be wrong.

It was a glarious day today, 11 degrees Celcius when I first stepped outside. I tried to get stuff done, i think I might even have accomplished a thing or two, in weird stages, one step forward two steps to the side, one back? two forward….? Computers are such tempermental creatures… Schnarr…..

And this photo was taken during the heat of things on the floor at the telethon. The two guys on the left are the ‘Talent’, I have no idea who they are or what their claim to fame originally was, but they come in with high energy and they joke back and forth with each other and they’re the closers, they come in and people reach deeper into their pockets and magical sums carpa hinchable appear on the wall behind them, I think they doubled the amount of money that had been pledged in the first six hours and did that in the last two hours.

(Yawn) I’m still feeling the burn… I squatted down to pick up a cable when we were about to move up the floor (there are like four sets and the stage, and I was pretty much on the camera that moved the farthest all day, with ten minute breaks here and there, with a new guy who only learned to handle a camera like thes maybe two weeks ago. We swapped off, when he was controlling the camera, I was keeping his cables from getting tangled, and when I was the camera person he was watching the cables.

& Just yesterday I was thinking it might be fun to come up with a silly soap opera about people who volunteer for cable teevee.

(Yay?)

Friday?

Posted by Jim - May 1st, 2009

During the telethon...Friday, May 1, 2009. Rosalie S, Sharon Woods, Uh, I think there were a couple others, but those two stand out as birthday people today. (helieghe shice! my high school sweatheart is 58 years old? nah, impossible. us immortals don’t age? everybody around us does….)

So the photo was taken during a break. We don’t have commercials, we have 6 minute video presentations. This telethon is in support of a seniors at home programme up here. Last year and the year before the big need was for a van with a wheel chair lift to drive seniors to their doctors and stuff like that. This year they made over 40,ooo $. I thought it was amazing that they made 36,000 the first year. (this was the third) (& my third year doing it.) Cathi was there from noon until 4 pm and then had to drive to Ottawa to bring carrera obstaculos hinchables her daughter ‘home’. (weird when you have two homes?) That’s a whole nother thing and a half.

In the director's chairThursday, April 30th, 2009.

I can’t think of anybody with a birthday today, second day in a row. (woa….)?

The photo here is a volunteer sitting in the director’s chair, during the telethon. Another Volunteer was complaining that she couldn’t get a photo of one of the guys who’d come down from Pembroke with the guy smiling. I got a smile from the wrong guy here, I think… Anyway, this is the control room inside the Mobile Unit (which looks like a rather large moving van, with a photographic mural all over it.

Anyway, the control room is a pretty cool play, huh? people castillo hinchable put way too much pressure on themselves and each other from this place. But it’s still pretty cool.

Wednesday

Stage before the festivitiesWednesday, April 29th, 2009. (Can’t think of anybody with a birthday today.)

I drove to Chelsea, Quebec, up near Wakefield, where Peter Jennings came from, to pick up an older Mac computer I bought through Kijiji dot com / Ottawa…. something I need to run software I’ve got that won’t run on newer computers., but is valuable enough so I’d rather spend a hundred & something bucks for an older computer than a couple thousand that I’d need to get the latest version that would need a whole lot of schnarr new hardware to go with it… grumble grumble grumble.

We have no idea what the high chair is doing here on the parcours obstacle gonflable stage while we were setting up equipment (this is still the day before the telethon. (yawn… I’m still exhausted just thinkin about it.)

Tuesday – Cody’s Birthday

Posted by Jim - April 28th, 2009

Lighting stuff before being set upTuesday, April 28, 2009. Cody’s (Ance’s Son) Birthday.

Again, I’m burned out, forget what the weather was like. (I’m writing these on May 3rd)

In the photo here, that’s the wife and son of the guy who owns the lighting business. All the boxes (on wheels, maybe I should call them trunks?) and all the metal scaffolding behind the people there are part of the lighting set up. This year they included a projection teevee that showed the audience what we were shooting.

The lighting crew are a separate entity. We volunteered our skills and gave the charity free air time. I’m not sure about anybody else. Things I wouldn’t think chateau gonflable twice about asking somebody in the states are just not asked up here. (or at least I get that impression- it doesn’t feel oppressive, it’s kind of like, “Okay- they value many things more than US people do, or just show it differently…..” kinda goes along with the theme of ‘two peoples divided by a common language’ / what ya take for granted can get you in big trouble with yourself or people you care about…)
