Races of Aerendel
Drax
Drax are cold blooded. (Literally, they're Lizards). They range in size and intelligence from Tiny to Huge and from Brainless to Genius. Some come from swampy terrain, some come from deserts. Some believe that all mammals should be eaten, some believe that mammals make interesting sex slaves (and are often indifferent to the gender of those slaves). A few respect mammals. Some of them respect us as peculiar, but interesting objects to be studied. Some might even genuinely like us. Most have an irritatingly patronizing way of dealing with anyone not of their race. They bow and call us 'Master' while they disembowel us in their imagination and will often try to do that, literally, the second they believe they can get away with it.
Appearance : Drax are Lizards: some scaly, some smooth, some horned and prickly. They come from diverse backgrounds (some can't imagine life far from the water, some avoid water (except to drink it) entirely).
They range in Height from just barely 3 feet tall to over 9 feet tall.
Their skin Coloring can be:
Brown, Green, Beige, Black, Orange, Red, Yellow, Blue or White
or some amazing combinations of any of the above colors.
Their skin Texture is often:
Sandy, Slick, Smooth, Pitted, Scaly, Rough, Spiked, Leathery or Peeling.
(They usually stay away from sentient mammals when they're molting- They can't stand the looks they get from us. They can't stand the idea that we look at them with disgust or pity.)
Hair : Drax sometimes have stuff that resembles hair. It sometimes grows on their arms or down their sides, rarely on their heads. Drax wearing wigs are either making fun of mammals or trying to get close enough to one to kill it. Their body 'hair' is usually: Black, Green, Yellow, Orange, Brown, White or Silver.
The Style of that 'hair' can usually be described as Bristly, Stubbly, Spiked, Jagged, Matted or Web-Like or Greasy.
Their Eyes are often : Red, Yellow, Brown, Copper, Silver, White or Black.
Advantages : Most Drax are Large, strong, quick and deadly. Many can spit or bite with poison. Most have sharp claws that do a lot of damage with a little bit of practice. They are accepted in any Profession (but they shun the 'non-title' of J.O.A.T. They seem to be very Status- Conscious. And Occupations of High Stature vary from Tribe to Tribe or sub-species to sub-species)
Dis-Advantages : Not widely Trusted or Liked by members of other races. Some groups do not speak to 'infidels' or any creatures less than Lizard-Kind (and all other creatures are considered to be less than Lizard-Kind). They accept the Ghardra as Lizards. (warm blooded and hairy, but Lizards) ((?)). They have often prospered from alliances with the Ghardra but know better than to turn their backs on them. Many 'Intellectually Afflicted' Drax become Mercenaries and fight for the Ghardra. Drax Psidahrians rarely have the patience and dedication it takes to reach the highest levels of expertise, and they are always closely monitored by high level Psidahrians.
Occupations : Any. Most Drax look down their noses at 'J.O.A.T.'s (but hire them as Carpenters and Masons) (And often insult them in ways that they believe should be painfully obvious, but may only be obvious to other Drax). They seem to have their own styles with Magic and usually lack the concentration or dedication it takes to become a high level Psidahrian. Perhaps they are insulted by the structure of the Psidahrian hierarchy or perhaps they loose ambition when they realize they can't become extremely effective high level Psionic Assassins in a short time. {{ Please note: It is believed that at some time in the future Drax and Ghardra cross-bred in an experiment to breed a super race, which some say 'worked' and others say 'backfired'. This experiment was suggested and supervised by Humans (they were allowed to believe they were in control).( The Experiment DID backfire for those humans ) }}
