THE LAST HALLOWEEN
She's 13 Daughter is Standing there Nearly a woman She faces A big decision. Should she go Door to door As she has done So many times (well, 12) before The lure of candy Tossed in pillow cases Is so strong And yet, It's really JUST FOR KIDS. Should she go? "Ah man, I don't Effing know," and, "Oops sorry mom" She says Hand on telephone My angel. I just can't believe This lovely young woman Is my little baby And Okay decision made They'll go This year But it's gotta be The last Halloween. It just won't be right When she's 14 Dare I tell her She will be Busy with high school dances And boy friends And who is liking who These days and who Said what to who And why More so ever Than now. It will be serious No, there just Won't be time at 14 and so Enjoy the last Halloween My darling Vampire Girl. © Catherine M. Harris 2004/10/30 |
